I have noticed a good many avatar and user names referencing the trumpet lately. So, as a trumpet player myself, I am curious, how many other trumpet players are active on B&B?
Let me know if you play the trumpet!

I played for about 8 years or so and then put it down and haven't picked it up in years. Would love to join some community bank and play 3rd trumpet for a while.

+1 - been playing for over 30 years and still loving it.
I play in community concert band, community swing orchestra, and a college chamber orchestra, plus whatever else I can pick up.
I heartily recommend everyone pick up their instruments again. Join a community group. It's a good social outlet, and good for the soul!
(where's the trumpet smiley)
PS. a shaving / trumpet story.
I don't like to play my trumpet with facial hair. It interferes, but I'm not too concerned about having shaved minutes before playing.
Story goes, a local player, was very keen on being clean shaven before every gig, and carried an electric razor with him too all events. He would shave before warming up each time. During a multi-evening run of a musical, he left his razor and things in the green room between shows. Unbeknown to him some of the other musicians thought it would be a great joke to remove the cutting blades from inside, and so they did.
Each night he'd faithfully buzz over his face with the electric, and then play the show. Not until the show was completely over for the run, did the others let him know, and return the shaver heads.
Not sure if he's less concerned about pre-show shaves now or not.

I've played since 4th grade, but took off a long time after college (where I played marching and concert bands, and jazz ensembles for a few semesters). Started up again in 1995 playing at church and another church's big band, and played in a community band until 2 years ago. I'm trying to start up again, but I want to find a good local teacher.
I'm pretty solid in the business range, but I want to try get a consistent solid high C anytime, anywhere, after hours of playing (high G would be nice, though :thumbup1:). I never made it there, and it's hampered me from playing 1st parts in concert bands.

That was Chase Sanborn, wasn't it?

Sadly, I have not got the source/names in my memory banks.

I played for about 10 years and sadly gave it up. I really miss playing. I need to get my Bach out and put it up as a display.

I definitely agree that being a "weekend warrior" can still be a lot of fun. I made a living at it for a while, but I might have more fun now that I only play at church, weddings, and give the occasional lesson.
Good number of folks already. I know there are several missing avatars and names I have spotted in other posts, hopefully they will show up here...
My kid plays. Bought her a nice Yamaha recently. My doctor says my hearing should come back shortly after she graduates.

No on the trumpet BUT I started in 4th grade on the trombone, 5th grade added baritone and 6th grade added tuba. When I was in the 7th grade, I was playing with the high school jazz band as I could play 3 different horns and sight read like a maniac.
8th grade, discovered guitars and that was all she wrote!. Never picked up a horn again, sadly.

I played the trumpet, trombone, bass trombone, flugelhorn, and baritone(euphonium). I'd kill for another trumpet though...

I moved back to my hometown 11 years ago and helped to start a community band. Since then, we have branched off a big band as well. If you haven't picked up your horn in years, you likely will fit in well in our group. If you have a horn in a closet somewhere, get it out, unstick the valves and give it a go. I hadn't played in 20 years before I restarted, and I really enjoy it.

In 6th grade I started with the cornet. In Jr High I picked up the trombone, baritone, tuba and French horn. In high school, I mostly played tuba and French horn. I was also a bugler in the Boy Scouts. That was all in the 80s. I sold my trombone last year, but still have a cornet and bugle. Take them out and play a bit every once in a while. If I were to join a community band, I would probably get a trumpet to play. My old cornet has lived a hard life, lol.

Great stories everyone! :thumbup1:
My neighbor convinced me to join band because it would make middles school easier, or so he said. I didn't even know the name, but the trumpet was the most recognizable instrument, so that is what I chose to play. Little did I know it would open a world of opportunities and pay my way through college with scholarships!
I wonder if there is a personality trait that draws people who play instruments, cook, and so forth to get into shaving as an interest.

I played for about 10 years but Military service put the kabosh on it. No room in the seabag for a trumpet.
Recently picked up an inexpensive instrument and have been toying with the idea of starting again.
A broken right hand years ago is hampering a full return to First Chair though!

I played for 10 years. Unfortunately, playing slipped away as "life" caught up with me. I miss it something awful. Except for picking it up occasionally to tool around with it, it's been about 25 years since I really played.

Sounds like me but with a different order. Baritone in 4th grade, trombone in 6th for jazz band, and tuba in 9th for marching band. My wife still swears she never would have given me a second date if she'd have known about my tuba playing past.

Not sure about that, but I am amazed at the number of design engineers I have run into in my field who were or are trumpet players.

I'm a professional trumpet player and college trumpet teacher. Finished my doctorate in trumpet performance last august. I guess I've been playing for 20 years or so (4th grade was a long time ago). Been lucky enough to travel and play all over the world and with a lot of fantastic musicians.

I also started with the cornet (my dads from when he played), then to trumpet, to tuba, euphonium, and sousaphone. Still love to pick up the cornet when I have the chance.
