Hi gents,

I have acquired the Muehle safety razor that resembles the Merkur 1904 (faceted handle w/ diamond engravings, nickle plated) It's the open comb version. Anyone have experience with this razor (or the straight bar version)? Does it shave well?

Frederick;

I have one also with the open comb. I thought it shaved almost identically to the Merkur 1904 model; about the same size and configuration. The only thing I noticed about it was that the combs stuck out kind of straight from the blade guard, and I would occasionally feel a little tug on my face. I thought one of them might not have been polished well, but I never could find one that looked wrong. It may be just the geometry of the head design. That was not a major problem, however, and all in all it is a very nice razor.

Thanks, I agree. Used it this morning and got a close and comfortable shave. No burn at all like I expected. Looks pretty cool too in the nickel travel box. :cool:

I think I just bought the same Muhle-Pinsel that you describe (in the nice box). One thing I've noticed: the handle, where it screws into the razor head (if that's the right term), seems to get a bit rusty after just one or two shaves. Have you noticed this too? How have you dealt with it? (You don't notice the rust until you unscrew the handle.)

Thanks,

Matt

Yes, mine got rusty as well. I don't use the razor anymore, after a couple of horrendeous shaves... The tin now carries my Merkurs when I'm on the road.
