Hi guys, my name is Drew, I'm a computer science major at the University of Illinois. I have been lurking for a couple of weeks and finally went ahead and purchased my DE razor and supplies. I actually got it for my birthday, which was May 4th.

What started my shaving interest was a book on Amazon called "Gourmet Shaving" and I decided to look into it and found my way here. I have been shaving for 2 years in the shower with a Gillette Fusion using running water as lubrication and going ATG(no cream/gel). Recently I have been starting to be so irritated that I cannot even stand my fiancé rubbing my face. I've even tried to use shaving cream with my razor and I cannot find a good shave. So I'm switching for good, as long as irritation isn't an issue any more.

So, here is the post-shopping list:
Merkur #33c
An alum Block
Col Conk's Santa Fe Shave Bowl
Almond Col Conk
BBB - Ebony Urn by Edwin Jagger (21mm)
Booster Mosswood AS.

Thanks for such a comprehensive list of free information!

Gillette Fusion + running water + ATG(no cream/gel) = irritated.

I'm horrified by your previous shave equation! :scared: Definitely worse than sniffing an Arko stick.

Thanks for such a comprehensive list of free information!

Free once you buy the pass to the uhh elevator! :001_cool:

Also you get the same advice as I gave one of the other newbs this evening.. You might end up taking a little experimentation to find the best blades for your face, so looking into a sampler pack of DE blades is a good idea, so you don't end up with too many of what you can't use.

WCS has a number of them here: http://westcoastshaving.com/index.php?main_page=index&cPath=2 (standard or extended will probably give you plenty to figure out your comfort zone)

Also If you need to get beyond text and pictures and see someone do stuff, check out Mantic's YouTube channel for some basic how-to videos: http://www.youtube.com/user/mantic59?blend=1&ob=4

Welcome to B&B! I'm glad that newer wet shavers have it easier choosing and buying a setup.
