Now that looks delicious! French toast was one of my favorites growing up, but doing it with French bread takes it to a whole new level.

Don't forget Panettone (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Panettone) french toast! One of my dad's Christmas classics.
Years ago, a friend recommended that I add a splash of Grand Marnier to the egg/cream batter, and I haven't looked back. :thumbup1:
Your version looks great.

Looks delecious.
One of my favorite versions of French toast is from Junior's in downtown Brooklyn. Their very low tech but effective secret is dredging the battered bread in crushed corn flakes, of all things. Served with a basket of mini pastries (and followed, or course, by an obligatory slice of cheesecake), it's one of my favorite breakfasts.

Golden Goodness. Pain dore as it is called in Quebec. Perfect time of year . . . the sugar shacks are only open for the next week or so where I am. Nothing like going to the Cabin a sucre for a big lunch of thick sliced ham, baked beans, and pancakes.
The french bread looks fantastic. I like to make french toast from brioche- really buttery and decadent.

Nice. Personally I am a Challah man for french toast. Dry it out in the oven a bit before battering it and you get a wicked custardy interior.
Jim, I'm sitting here reading the new posts and then I see this!!
I wasn't hungry until I saw that photo, I have nothing in the house to make french toast with and now I am hungry ... This is somewhat cruel

Fabulous, Jim! Looks great. I really enjoy all the variations on French Toast. I make a baked french toast like Ouch was talking about with a corn flake or crisped rice dredge and pure vanilla (or Gran Marnier). Works very well on all types of bread. It comes out crisp and chewy and hits the spot!
French toast is something that can be done a lot of different ways. You can add sugar, vanilla, liquor, cinnamon, or other things to the batter, and use different breads. Top it off with anything from syrups to fruit toppings, to plain powdered sugar like I had it in London.
One variation that I had last year in Washington D.C. was pumpkin french toast. Very Yummy!

One portion: 2 eggs, scant tablespoon of sour cream, fresh cracked pepper - wisk until frothy. Add pinch of fresh taragon, fresh chives (both finely cut/snipped) and a touch of Kosher salt. Quick whisk. Pat of unsalted butter into a medium hot pan. When foaming subsides, pour in eggs. Rinse bowl. Return to pan and using your favorite implement of destruction, start at the edge of the pan and drag the setting eggs to the center. Do this a couple of times in different places, allowing the runny eggs to fill in the open spots. Sprinkle with your favorite cheese. Give it another couple of drags and shakes then toss eggs and turn off heat. I like them just set, still moist. Serve with a sliced bananna, thick sliced bacon and a warmed croissant. Wash down with your favorite java.:biggrin1:

I like them with peppers, onions, and a dish or two of hot sauce. I can't make to save my life but my wife loves to cook it. I either end up burning it or it's too dry or wet.

Equal parts cheese and eggs and a splash of milk. Okay maybe not equal parts but a bunch of cheese at the kids request. After they are done they are best in a wheat tortilla with a ton of hot sauce.
Just about the same here, but I use a little bit of Dukes Mayo instead of milk. If I have some pulled pork left over I will add that. And yes, overcooking is the worst thing you can do to it. The tortilla sounds good, I will try it.
I use farm fresh eggs too, makes all the difference in the world.

These all look soooo goood.
Try this one:
Ingredients
1 1/2 cups whole milk
4 large eggs
1 tablespoon light brown sugar
1 teaspoon lightly packed orange zest
1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
1/2 teaspoon ground cardamom
1/2 teaspoon kosher salt
8 (1-inch thick) slices sweet batard or brioche
3 or 4 tablespoons unsalted butter (1/2 stick)
Directions
In a large bowl, whisk together milk, eggs, sugar, orange zest, vanilla, cardamom, and salt until eggs are broken up and evenly combined. Soak 3 bread slices in egg mixture turning once, until soaked through, about 4 minutes total.
Meanwhile, melt 1 tablespoon of butter in a large frying pan over medium heat. When butter foams, place 3 pieces soaked bread in the pan and cook until browned, about 2 minutes per side. Repeat with remaining bread.

If you like pastrami, you'll love prosciutto... Once the eggs begin to "firm up" in the pan, put some thin slices of Parm or Motz Cheese then the meat and top off with some cracked black pepper, and a light drizzle of good olive oil. Fold over and let it warm throughout till eggs are done, and serve. Voila! Let me know what you think.

We had a silly combination today and it was deluxe and non-deluxe all at the same time. I rushed around getting coffee on and putting away last night's dishes. I threw on a pot of water to get boiling . . . and a fry pan . . . when the water was boiling I added some asparagus . . .snapping them to separate the tender from the tough. Oh . . and by that time I was scrambling eggs and making toast . . . (one gets good at multitasking by necessity)
In between all this . . . I mixed some cheese whiz and milk . . . nuked it. . . and when the toast popped up . . buttered it . . .
result . . . asparagus on toast with cheese sauce and scrambled eggs.
Better than what I've had at any restaurant.

Jowl bacon, basted eggs and sourdough toast with apricot jam.
The bacon is also known as guanciale and is the preferred meat for such pasta dishes as amatriciana and carbonara. This is the first time I've got it from the CSA (http://www.marinsunfarms.com/index.html) with which I just subscribed. Very tasty stuff. The slices rendered their fat much more completely than does typical bacon, leaving just a tasty amount on the slice and plenty of fat for later frying.
The thing I like best about basted eggs is that they deliver everything I like about soft boiled eggs, especially the soft texture - without the overly gooey whites and the shell to contend with. Well, that and you can fry them in bacon fat.

Basted eggs - think of sunny side up, except that right before they finish a lid is put on top, a bit of water added, and the top of the eggs steam cook a bit.
I like basted eggs as opposed to over; they're often prettier and the whites cook through without gaining a crust.

I was spoiled for some time. Being unemployed I had time to take as much time as I liked to make breakfast. The last month or so I've been back at work (thank goodness) and so I need to be a bit more efficient in the morning but . . . gosh I do like bacon.
The photos above are of the process that most restaurants use to cook bacon for use in BLTs for lunch etc.
1) I just cut through the middle of a whole package of bacon and lay it into a foil lined pan. The foil makes cleanup a little easier but is not at all necessary.
2) Put it in the oven and set the temp at 400 degrees F
3) In about 16 minutes or so . . . it is done. The time depends on the thickness of bacon and how quickly your oven warms up. I under do mine as I usually cook it a bit more the morning I have it.
4) Lay it on paper towel and . . . for goodness sake save the bacon fat for use in something later (corn bread, rice, fried eggs, . . . )
5) Stack into a container and place in the fridge for use over the next week.
I will admit it is a bit of a challenge not to snack on the cooked bacon right out of the fridge.

So after looking at all the french toast (and drooling) I noticed no one eats their french toast with ketchup...?
I usually don't but a friend of mine does, and got me into it cause we usually have breakfast together after a long night of tipping glasses,
I was a little skeptical at first but then after it was explained to me it made sense. "It's just eggs and toast man! Throw some bacon on it and some hash browns on the side and squirt ketchup and hot sauce over the works!"
To address the OP I like a cheese and bacon omelet, hand cut hash browns, rye toast and apple juice or milk on a sunday when there's time. Most other days it's cereal or porridge and toast.

It seem my breakfast isn't as robust as other people on the board. It I had it my way, I would have scrambled eggs, hashbrowns, bacon with english muffins served along side an espresso. However, I had to settle with French toast with cinnamon and maple syrup. Not a bad compromise.

Nothing but the best, heartiest hot cereal in the world! Red River Cereal, sweetened with real maple syrup and a side of crêpes!
My 'grand-père's' recipe for crêpes:
3 eggs,
3/4 cups flour
3/4 cups - half milk, half water.
I usually add in an ounce (or more:tongue_sm) of tasty liqueur, such as coffee liqueur, or orange, just for flavour.
Whisk until batter is smooth!
Put a little bit of butter, oil, or margerine in a pan. Ladle some batter in the middle, and tilt the pan to get the batter all around! Flip, cook the other side, and you're done!
You can eat them as is with syrup, or roll them with brown sugar, or jam in the middle, or fold them with fruit, and top with icing sugar! Delicious!!
Hopefully you can guys can enjoy the stuff I grew up on.

Red River. Nothing like it after crawling out of bed on a cold winter morning, shovelling the driveway in the blowing wind, having a shower to thaw out. I like mine with a good helping of brown sugar.
For days like this I have a stash of hot chocolate and marshmallows that I will break out at work for the folks who manage to get into work.
A great thought just now as we are having the type of heat where I am that the A/C is having a tough time keeping up.

This thread has caused me to alter my entire morning routine. So far, the results are far exceeding my expectations.
My standard morning used to begin after hitting the snooze button until I absolutely had to get up, cramming a bowl of cold cereal, bath and shave, off to work. If I managed one less hit to the snooze, I could make a press of coffee or a pot of tea to put in the travel mug.
This week I've been getting up an hour earlier than usual. I bring my laptop into the kitchen and stream NPR while taking my time to make a real breakfast. For the last 2 days it's been hash browns with onions, Italian bread toast, bacon, coffee, and scrambled eggs made using the Gordon Ramsey Method (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WxV9QLuEwZo) (though sans creme fresh.)
Slowing down the morning has really helped my stress levels throughout the day. Since it's no longer a mad dash, I feel more composed and able to handle things. Now all I need is more recipes!

It is amazing the difference being ready for the day before you get to work makes. I like a bit of texture to my scrambled eggs . . . but agree with the chives or smoked salmon or or or, and the nob of butter and not cooking them until dried out.
When it gets colder one of our favourite meals is steel cut oatmeal. It takes a bit of time but I've found the right temperature so that I can set it on and the 18 minutes it takes to cook a batch for two I use to shave and shower. My wife, brave soul that she is, likes it with a little milk. I like the milk and a fairly good dose of brown sugar.

The gourd is the traditional method of drinking mate. I picked up a pair of simple gourds at a local market. They can be quite fancy as well. Ordering online is about the only way to find them.

M-F I'm a cereal guy. Bran type cereal with cut up bananas, strawberries, or blueberries, milk, oj, and wheat toast + grape jelly. I hate getting up in the morning and the last thing I like to do is make breakfast quite frankly. My main shave is at night, morning is a touchup. The only time I attempt to make something is on the weekends. My favorite to make is an omelette with meat, veggies, and cheese. Turkey, chorizo, bell peppers, diced tomato, and pepper jack cheese ftw!

That just doesn't cut it. Breakfast should be a robust meal to start the day with. The evening supper should be just enough to hold you over until morning. That alone has been proven to contribute to weight loss because you burn the calories during the day instead of sleeping on them during the night.
Today it was Cream of Wheat, followed later on by a couple of sunny side up eggs along with a pair of waffles and a rasher of bacon.
I saw some pumpkin eggnog for sale in the store yeasterday, so I grabbed a quart. This morning I used it to make some Pumpkin French Toast by substituting it for milk in the egg mix. Soaked some Texas Toast slices in it and it came out very tasty with some powered sugar (no syrup) on top.

I just noticed Timezone on the computer screen. It is nice to see another victim of multiple addictions. It is interesting how traditional shaving, watches, knives, fountain pens and firearms seem to go together. ? a yet poorly described effect of testosterone on the cerebral cortex??

Had to re-season my cast iron skillet, so this morning was bacon, two eggs over easy, and a couple pieces of wheat toast. A glass of apple juice to wash it down with made for a great breakfast!

Steel cut oats with a bit of milk and brown sugar.
There is no comparison between steel cut and the wall paper paste that results from rolled and quick oats. If all you have ever had have been rolled oats . . . you owe it to yourself to try steel cut.

Regular...week days.. breakfasts...2 slices of some nice rye bread from a Jewish bakery ....Slavic-Jewish type rye...toasted with margarine...hot toast, nothing worse than cold toast.
Hot, soft, tasty.
And a banana.
Got to watch my weight.....so...no more slices of old Canadian Cheddar.
Glass of Canadian Shield water.
Weekends.....Tim Horton's decaf coffee...the way only my wife knows how to make it (perfect)....Irish Creme.
Sour Dough multi grain toasted....with two large eggs.....just the way my wife makes them...again..which is perfect.
Two Turkey Brats....fried...big and juicy.
Glass of Canadian Shield water.

Normally, I'll have a bowl of youghurt with oatmeal, nuts and dried fruit. Then two pieces of "knäckebröd", swedish hard bread from rye, with french cheese and thinly sliced ham or hardboiled egg with caviar. Coffee, of course.

That's a good recipe, I make it regularly.

I actually have a friend that works at Williams Sonoma (and gets a 40% discount!!) that is picking me up a Pullman Loaf pan today. That will be the first thing I make after I get the new pan.

Nice. I have debated getting a pullman loaf pan but haven't pulled the trigger yet.
I had home made toasted wheat bread for breakfast today.

As the title say's, or if theres a thread like this, well bugger.
anyway today i had a piece of toast with peanut butter and some juice, this is big for me cause i struggle with breakfast during the week,
weekend it depends on whats availible and how bad the hangover is, but the prefered option is the old bacon and eggs.
