Hi
Is a shaver stand important for the care of the DE shaver and brush? Or would the DE shaver be OK if I sit it on it's side?
I'm assuming the Merkur DE shavers aren't prone to corrosion.
If a shaver stand is recommended can I get a good cheap one in Melbourne, Australia?
Thanks
Sir Ronald

Thanks. I'll look around for a brush stand this week.

Just goes to show it's a case of YMMV, I use a razor stand but don't use a brush stand.
Make or buy one if it doesn't suit you then you can PIF it to someone who may enjoy it.

I second this. I am of the belief, rightly or wrongly, that a brush should dry inverted. I think the debate is still open on this one!

Neither a brush stand nor a razor stand is important.
I leave my brushes to dry bristles up, and I place my razor next to the sink on its side.
No problem whatsoever with either of these practices.:thumbup1:

I don't use a stand for my razor or my brush, they put a flat bottom on brushes for a reason.

My razors sit on a folded cloth in the medecine cabinet. My brushes sit in the open air on the counter top with my mug.

I can see there is no hard and fast rule on this. So I'll only buy one if it's inexpensive and looks nice enough.

I use a stand for my brush, but not for my razor. If I was not using a stand for the brush, I would just give it an extra shake or 2 to make sure that all the extra water is out of it after shaving.

That could be just for whilst you're shaving, couldn't it?

How would having a flat bottom be used while shaving?

Between relathering. I sit my brush up on a shelf whilst shaving.

I would imagine it would help if you're a face latherer and thusly don't have a bowl full of lather to rest it in.

What they said.
It makes no difference, it's purely a matter of choice.
If you like a razor or brush stand, get one, but it isn't important in so far as drying a brush or protecting a razor.
I have razors and brushes that sit in stands and I have razors and brushes that are never in stands and they are all fine.
This debate has raged infinitum and been tested with experiments.
There is absolutely no evidence to indicate that one or the other makes a brush dry better or faster and no evidence whatsoever that it provides any protection or benefit one way or the other.

For the Merkur: I just make sure to dry it thoroughly after each shave.
For the brush: Just give it a good rinse and shake, then leave it open air (probably best not to put a moist brush like that in a closed cabinet).
Which direction? I think it's purely personal preference.

To each his own. :001_rolle
If you see one you like. Buy it. Now only if you you like it. Cause you certainly don't need it!!

I don't use a stand for straights, DEs, or brushes. They all just sit under the sink.
I have a stand for one of my brushes but don't use it, it's easier to just sit the brush upside down.
We have a fairly small bathroom sink, and SWMBO'd stuff takes up most of the room. All of the under sink storage is mine though.

It isn't necessary, but I like to hang my brush bristles down to dry. A razor is fine on it's side, too, but I usually use a little nickel-plated stand from WCS that hangs the brush and stands the razor upright. It saves space and makes an attractive combo.

Toothbrush stands are just about perfect for DEs.
