I'm this is on the forums somewhere.. but there is so much info, sometimes it's just easier to start a new thread.
I read recently that if you don't want your aftershave to clash with your cologne, you can use witch hazel as an aftershave.
To do this, do you splash it on just like you would your AS? or should you do some cottonball rubbing thing? or something else?
Any help with this would be great, as my wife just both me some new cologne that she loves on me, but i don't seem to have a complimentary AS yet.

I usually just splash it on. It smells odd for a minute, but then dissipates. If you have some weepers or cuts I would add an alcohol splash too.

When applying Witch Hazel, I use the splash-on method. I use a generous amount of WH, and apply it not just to my beard area, but all over my face, behind the neck, and up over the ears. I even use it on days when I don't shave, to finish up washing my face.
If you haven't tried it yet, I strongly recommend investing in a bottle of Thayer's WH. At $10 a bottle, it is a bit expensive compared to generic WH, but it is worth every penny. Its formula stands head and shoulders above your standard drugstore WH, and the addition of Aloe makes it that much more soothing to your skin.

Thanks for the advise, while i was oot n aboot this weekend, i noticed the Thayer's at WholeFoods... didn't find anything else worth looking at (in the shaving dept) but i'll be sure to pick some up this weekend or next.

I'm using the Thayer's Alcohol free w/ Aloe. Stuff is awesome. Really reduces any redness I may have and as stated above; once is dries there the woodsy scent dissipates. Nothing to clash with any aftershave or cologne. Quite frankly, some days I don't bother with aftershave. The witch hazel alone does the trick!

Man you shocked me I looked at the picture of your avatar and thought it was me. What is really scary is my wife thought it was me too.

That was my Zombie Billy Mays costume from this past Halloween.

I bought a bottle of Thayer's yesterday and gave it a try. I used it after my Alum stick pass. It's a great product and I will be using it from now on. I applied it with a cotton pad but I would imagine you could just as easily splash it on.

WH works fine as an aftershave splash. Go cheap. Drugstore generic @ $2/pint.
Follow with cologne/EdT to suit.

Give Kiss My Face and Alba Botanica shaving creams a try. KMF gets reasonable press around here, and Alba Botanica is my go-to cream. If you do try it, don't waste your time trying to get it to lather. It doesn't.

I use Thayer's, but the $2-$3 drugstore variety works equally well. Go get a bottle and try it out. You won't have much invested and I think you'll really enjoy witch hazel after an application or two.
