Other superspeeds I see have fairly pronounced horizontal bands. I know there is a version without bands (rocket?) but this one has very faint bands.

The "TV Special" had no bands, but yours does. So not that, but yes, could be a British Flare Tip Rocket, which did - does yours have a II symbol on the back of the head? Does it have #694093 in the blade tray? Could be a British FTR if so. Or, could just have wear - from the pic looks like handle is starting to brass.

I'm thinking that the machine used to mill those bands was probably a bit worn down and ready to be replaced in the factory.

+1 Or very sharp. The rings are a little light but in the right place. The style handle is correct for the date code. I think it's a standard Super Speed.
