I totally love my Futur!!!!

but...

After shaving the night before last, I noticed the chrome plating peeling off of the head of the razor. I guess I'll have to contact Merkur's customer service.

Anyone else had this problem with Merkur razors?

Hi;

I had the same problem with a Vision, not on the head but on the inside and around the bottom of the handle. That's one reason I quit using the Vision, the insides had to be kept clean from corrosion to keep the plating from coming off and damaging the parts. Gave a great shave, but over-engineered IMO. I sent it back and they sent another, but I got rid of it. It's a chronic problem with Visions and Futurs I think.

+1 I just purchased my Futur. I will keep on eye on this. Thanks for the heads-up.

This problem is really troubling.:scared: I have used my Vision 2000 and Futur (matte finish) for many years without any tarnishing, corrosion, or other such unpleasantnesses. I wonder what is unique about either my circumstances or yours that leads to this difference? So many things environmental, individual, or (date of) manufacture-related that it could potentially be. I would really be interested in learning the outcome of your issue. I think you will find Merkur to be attentive and willing to resolve this sort of thing.

+1 on the troubling aspect, as I own and use daily a chrome plated Futur. Please keep us informed as to if this is a design or production problem.

Classicshaving.com is allowing me to send it back to them. I assume that they will switch it out for another. I'll keep you all posted.

My razor is the bright chrome finish, and I've only been using it for a little over a week. All it's seen is shaving soap and water.

Aside from this cosmetic problem, I TOTALLY love and recommend this razor. Shaves smooth with a Feather.

Merkur has been having some SERIOUS quality control issues. I had a crappy finish on my Progress I bought from ClassicShaving, they gladly sent me a replacement but the second one wasn't any better so I sent it back and just kept my original one. It's a wonderful shaver though.
They really need to do something over there. Merkur is tarnishing Germany's reputation for uber-quality production.
