My first shave with a the Merkur 34C Heavy Duty Safety Razor was much quicker than my first shave with the Dovo Shavette.

I do like the weight of the 34C HD, but right out of the box there was some copper coloring on the threads of the head.

There was some mild razor burn, which is probably from poor technique.

All in all it was a good first shave with a DE.

Congradulations it should get better with practice.

Welcome to B&B. The 34C is a great razor and one of my go-to favorites.

welcome to B&B
congrats on your choice of gear. I'm a 34C fanboy (used mine w/ a derby this morning).
Crystals are a fairly sharp blade.
When I use them I try to apply very little pressure and I go slowly.
keep up the good work.

Welcome to B&B!

Congrats on picking the right razor to start off with. The 34C is a good choice for beginners, and it may be all the razor you ever need. Then again, probably not, but its a good starting point. 34C is not the world's best razor, but its the world's BEST SELLING razor, for a lot of different reasons.

That initial razor burn is nothing to worry about. With some practice, you'll get irritation free shaves in no time. For a quick way to jump-start your technique, check out The BALANCE POINT Method (http://wiki.badgerandblade.com/index.php/User:Dpm802) in the B&B ShaveWiki.

Congrats on your first DE shave!
Glad to hear you like the HD!
After the 1904, the Heavy Duty is my favourite Merkur Double Edge razor.

Welcome to the forum. Once you get used to shaving with a DE you will not miss cartridge or electric razors. Merkur is an excellent choice, enjoy.

This morning shave with the 34C went well. No new nicks, cuts, or razor burn, just the stuff from yesterday.
I did to passed one North-to-south, and another east-to-west.
It's still a nice smooth shave.

I'm one step closer to BBS.

I did a WTG, XTA, and ATG shave this morning, my cheeks have not been this smooth since grade school. I was rushed or I would have made another XTA to get my neck BBS.

I used the Feather New Hi-Stainless, they were great and it was almost like nothing was being shaved, but when I looked at the lather there were hairs in it. :biggrin1:

So far a fan of the Feather blades.

The grade for this shave is a B+, no irritation, DFS on my neck, and BBS on my cheeks, chin, and around my lips.

I purchased a 34C from a chap here on B&B as a entry razor. I liked it so much I've not bothered getting another...at least not yet. Good Choice!
