Need Pen Advice

Gentlemen,

I need some help. My God Daughter is graduating from college in May. I've decided that I would like to buy a nice pen as she starts her career. Her parents bought me an engraved set of pens when I graduated high school 20 years ago and I am still using them today.

Here are the requirements I desire:


Ball point - (click, removable cap or twist undecided)
Color - green (used to be her favorite color)
Easily found refills
$125 budget


I'm looking for something new. I am really out of my element here, so any advice is appreciate.

You might look at a Pelikan Souveran 400. It comes in a rollerball or ball point and looks great with the green barrel. The ball point is in your price range, the rollerball a little over.

If you are stuck on the idea of a ballpoint, the Pelikan is a fine suggestion. I have a couple of their fountain pens (collected my newest addition this evening) and they are a quality product.

I have the chrome Medalist version of that pen and it's a fine pen. Prefer a Pelikan fountain pen though!

To be honest, I never gave a fountaing pen any consideration. I just guessed a 22 year old working in a crime lab or coroner's office would not want to be using a fountain pen.

Fountain pens are quaint and have a following but unless your into them, in this day and age they are impractical with most work being done on computers or carbon forms. If you work in a profession where you really do alot of writing that's one thing but most who do note taking use laptops these days. What I'm saying is it's not for most but they are cool and I do use them.

Since BP pens are really just holders for the refills, you should figure out what kind of refills you like. Personally, I prefer fountain pens, but when I must use a BP I use a Parker gel refill. Parker makes a number of pens within your price range, and there are also some Parker-compatible pens. For example, I usually carry a Underwood Metal Guilloche Filet, which takes Parker refills.

FP is the only way to go!

Need a relatively convenient one, the Pilot Vanishing Point is excellent.

Fountain Pens really work (provided you don't need to make carbon copies of your handwriting).
