Hi,
Trying to figure out how to clean a vintage razor, I came across the term barbercide. I wonder what it is. Thanks.
Edit: Or is it barbicide?

It's a hospital-grade disinfectant a lot of guys use to soak their razors in. Available at Sally's Beauty, Barbicide is one option for your cleaning regime, especially for disinfecting second-hand purchases. Directions are on the bottle, but in general it takes 10 minutes. Right now, it's on sale for $5 @SB.

Barbercide would be the killing of a barber.
You may want barbicide, a commercial disinfectant used by barbers and beauty shops. You can find it on Amazon, as well as in beauty supply shops. You dilute it with water to use it.
You must have gotten a really bad haircut if you're asking about barbercide.
Sally's Beauty supply sells the Barbicide that kills everything you can think of.
Barbicide = kills the germs.
Barbercide = kills the barbers.

The backstory is that the guy who developed it really disliked barbers and chose the name as sort of a joke.
Really.

Does anyone know how long a jar can be used and still be effective?

I believe that the shelf life is probably on the order of a couple of years because (I think) Barbicide is sold as a concentrated stock solution which you dilute down to a working solution. The stock will last for quite a while... As to how long, I have no idea.

Barbicide is a United States Environmental Protection Agency-approved hospital disinfectant. It is a germicide, pseudomonacide, fungicide, and viricide. In addition, it kills the HIV-1 virus (AIDS virus), Hepatitis B, and Hepatitis C.
If your not just shaving yourself, buy some, its rather inexpensive. Some people who just shave themselves use it too, I just use rubbing alcohol, but I am going to buy Barbicide this week. And with Barbicide, a bottle will last a long, long time, since you dilute it with water.

Gotta disagree with you on that one. Not only do I think that the jar with its blue water is a nice addition to the shave den, but it really cuts through soap scum better than alcohol, but it has anti-rust properties.
Is it necessary, not at all. Is it a waste of money? Far from!

Ok. It's not necessary.

I love the look of the jar. Reading their site they say to change it daily. I'm not sure if that is something that needs to be done in all cases or if that is only because they are mainly selling to barbers and salons.

Oh man! I was going to post the very same thing--barbercide vs barbicide--when I saw the original OP post! Kudos, you're quicker off the draw as well as being named after one of my favorite libations when I spent time in the former Yugoslavia.........
