Can anyone tell me what is the point of a slant razor? Whats the science behind it?

Most people use the slants to shave with. Dr. Slantieth the third developed them.

Angled blade slices whiskers versus a non-slant, where the blade angle with respect to the whiskers is essentially perpendicular, thus chopping them. Analogizing to decapitation, think guillotine (slant) versus sword/axe (normal DE).

It slices as it cuts.

Slants scare me.

Don't let them scare you. Get yourself comfortable with a conventional DE (so that you can give yourself consistent, bloodless shaves) then give one a try.

Slants scare me.

The fear factor is grossly exaggerated. Don't fear the slant, it's kind of fun to use.
It may be the razor for you, and it may not, but you shouldn't worry about it at all.

The slant induces a twist to the blade, that results in a radial curvature at the edge. This results in more of a shearing action during the shave and provides an exceptionally close and smooth shave.

The slant pretty much requires good technique, but gives a gentle and close shave. Recommended.

+1. Great shaves and the whole, "they're dangerous" thing is way overblown.

I love my Hoffritz slant. I have had some of my best shaves while using it.

The slant gives a different shave, but not necessarily a better shave. Individual preferences are the rule with slants. Some like and rave about them, and some don't like them at all.

If the interest in trying the slant is there, then you should give it a shot. If you find that you don't care for it you can always sell it on B/S/T with no trouble at all. :thumbup1:

+1 Same here. It's favorite razor, gives me the closest shaves and helped improve my technique. :biggrin1:

My Merkur Sledgehammer slant is the only razor I use anymore. My shaves became easier and smoother after I started using it and I haven't looked back. There's no need to fear it, I highly recommend trying one.
