Not me, Dave. I've got to get on ebaY more often.

Bidding went just a few dollars higher than I was willing to pay. It still went for a pretty reasonable price, though: $76.

Sorry gents...this is what happens when you let your daughter 'play' with your keyboard...thought I was only 'watching' the darn auction :)

Yes sir...the deed is done. The brush stable is slowly but steadily on the rise. I'm really dying to know what quality of hair rooney did 'back then'! Do you guys have an older rooney that hasn't been re-knotted...I honestly think it would be a crime to re-knot this one considering I'll be the first guy to lather it up since it left the factory :)

Very cool score! I'd be very happy with $76 for that.

I think that one's a Rooney boar. Beautiful brush.

Congratulations -- I think you got a GREAT price on this!
I was also wondering what the knots were like on vintage Rooneys. Not having an answer to the question is what made me hesitate in attempting to outbid you! I would not re-knot this brush -- the hair looks to be in fantastic shape!
Please post your impressions of the knot once you receive the brush. Congratulations, again! I'm glad it went to a fellow B&Ber!

Thanks Dave...and all the rest of you guys! I probably would not have outbid you had I known it was a fellow B&Ber ...man...just the fact that we're talking about the auction within minutes of it ending is fascinating! :)

Here is what I love about B&B. Ssultan and I have never met. Yet, I am extremely happy that he got this brush (despite that fact it means I didn't get it). And Ssultan would have been just as happy if I had gotten it instead of him. Where else are you going to get that kind of camaraderie on the interweb? Enjoy the brush, Ssultan!

Very well said Dave...very well said indeed Sir! :)
I will post pictures and provide an update when the brush arrives. I've always wondered about these old badger knots ...supply was not an issue back then...wonder how they measure up against their modern counterparts...

Aren't most knots these days imported from Chinese badgers?

Yup...I just finished responding to a most informative thread regarding this very topic. Appears that all post-92 badger was and is being sourced from China.

Knots or pelts?
There are some pre-picked knots from China. The prestigious brands, or some of them, claim to hand pick their own knots. The badger pelts are sourced mainly from China, some from Russia.

I was the first person to bid on this one, just minimum bid and my only bid, not seriously trying to win it, just wanted to follow it and see what it sold for. I'm looking forward to seeing the pics and hearing your impressions.
And congrats on your fine score!

Question from the newbie (me). Greybeard suggested this is a Boar brush and to be honest, based on my limited experience, I would look at this brush and guess it's a boar as well because of the length of the "white" on the ends.
So, is this a badger or boar brush? Any advice for this newbie on judging a brush purely on a picture?

After looking at 1,000s and 1,000s you just become used to the way different brushes look. Although not helpful to me in this case. I thought it was a boar also

Very nice score, I would have been happy to pay a bit more for such a beautiful NOS Rooney brush. I am trying to abstain from even logging on to ebay for a bit:lol:
Please let us know how it lathers and post some pics!
Congrats
