Differences in technique

I grabbed my razor and acted like I was going to shave and noticed that I couldn't see the blade very well. I held it similarly to the way Joel did on his video on the front page. It felt a bit strange and like I'd be shaving with blinders on. Then I checked out Chimensch's 30th anniversary shave and noticed that his technique leaves the blade in front of the hand rather than behind the hand so you can see it better. I haven't tried either of these yet, but it makes me wonder how others shave.


What's your preference and is this just something you figure out for yourself over time?

I always hold it the same as Joel but after watching Chimensch's vid I'm going to try it out that way.

It depends on where I'm shaving and which way. The method doesn't matter, so long as it works for you.
