View Full Version : Jagger/Muhle mugs and bowls
Ok, I admit it, I'm a stupid noob overly fixated on aesthetics :blushing: . Since I got started with a the EJ89 and an EJ brush, I just feel compelled to keep all my accouterments EJ/Muhle. If you guys have either the lather bowl or apothecary mug, would you please comment on their usefulness for bowl lathering?
I think the apothecary mug would be too small for good lathering, but I may still put it on my wishlist just for containing creams and stuff--it looks darn good:001_cool:. If the bowl is, you know, actually effective, then I can prioritize that over the mug.
I'm already up to three soaps and two creams, plus samplers. Help me refine my shaving debt direction.
I know you guys are out there!

I have the mug and think it is very suitable for its intended purpose. The knob works well for slippery hands during lathering. It fits the EJ soaps perfectly (of course). That said, I find myself face lathering these days so use it somewhat sparingly.

I have the white porcelain bowl and it is a beautiful. It's the one shown here:

It fits the EJ soaps perfectly. It is bigger than it looks in the picture. It measures approximately 4.75" in diameter. I do have a second one that I was about to post on BST if you are interested feel free to PM me.
I'm leaning towards the apothecary mug right now. I think the bowl will be too small for me.

I have to agree with Don, the mug with the knob is just perfect. I looked and tried several bowls and latte mugs, then found the ivory jagger mug, that ended my search, they are fragile though, drop it and its toast.:001_smile

And can you confirm that it looks freakin' cool? And that you have the only one in Plainview?
FWIW
I bought a mug last year because it looked so cool.
It was my intent to use it as a lather bowl.
It does have 3 radial ridges on the bottom that assist in that.
And in person it looks really cool.
I stopped using it because it was noisy. the bottom is narrow ~2 5/8".
I'd get to thrashing around building up lather and my brush would hit the sides.
There would be a consequent <ding> <ding> <ding> of Kent BK4 on porcelein.
sonic pollution IMO.
I've been tempted to buy the bowl for lather but the mug just sits there any more.

I have the bowl. Its beautiful and makes a good soap bowl but is way to small for lathering I would think. Also it has a platinum ring at its ridge. If you like to melt glycerin soaps, this one cant go in the micro wave.
