Hi gents,
So anyone ever have an experience where you try a blade for the first time and like it, but not so much the subsequent times?
My case: I tried Gillette 7OClock Yellows once and liked them but then I tried feathers and got much better results... Decided to try G7OCY's again... and started getting massive irritation. Tried another G7OCY again, and still irritated.
What gives?

Your skin gives, that's what. Same prep and setup can give you a great shave one day and a bad shave another. Skin changes a lot. Dryness, bumps, dead skin layers etc. I got a terrible shave with my Yellows the other day but they remain one of my favorites. I can't speak for everyone here but for me the quality of shaves vary from day to day. Just the way it is.

More than likely it was a blade that just worked better for you. In this case the feather was a better blade, and when you tried the other blade it didn't work as well as the feather. You probably tried to get the same results that you got from the feather, and you used more pressure. Trying to get that other blade to give the same results as the feather, resulted in a worse shave.
Looks like you've found a better blade now, so I'd call the feather your new best blade. :thumbup1:

The same thing has happened to me with Merkurs and Derbys. I started with Merkurs, and I liked them just fine. Tried Derbys and I enjoyed the shave they gave. I went back to the Merkurs and hated them.

Agreed. I think that the Feathers just suited your face better, and you maybe applied too much pressure and shaved at a more aggressive angle without knowing it. But, I wouldn't count them out just yet--give them another shot or two, maybe finish up the pack, and then decide. Perhaps you just got a couple of bad blades. It does happen.
Good luck, and keep enjoying your shaves.
I've experienced similar going back to a blade I liked before. Likewise, I've had some I didn't like originally that I got a pretty good shave with trying them a second time.
