Merkur Classic. Most of the Gillettes (adjustables and Superspeeds), Merkur Progress. Personally I think you should look around more, there's got to be a HD going somewhere. Try the Buy/Sell/Trade forum first. Good luck

Try the Merkur Classic or Long Handle. If you don't mind spending a little more, get a Progress and leave it on 2 or 2 1/2, which is the equivalent of the HD's blade gap. Instead of knifecenter, I would go with Cotton Blossom (http://www.cottonblossomcrafts.com/razor_page.htm) or QED (http://www.qedusa.com/) (look under other products.)

Just thought - Put a thread into the Buy/sell/trade forum with 'wanting to buy' heading, That's how I got mine! :wink2:

Stomping my feet and yelling as in a football stadium,,,"Vision,,,,,Vision,,,,,,Vision"! I think it's wrong to think of this razor as not being for beginners. Only four shaves and I'm looking forward to tommorrow's already!

I would go with a feather portable, you can get them for $7.50 and they are a slightly better razor for a beginner. In my experience they shave just as closely, with less irritation.

I use a Merkur Long Handle (LH). It works great for me and I have average sized hands.

I have the classic. I bought it well before I stumbled on this site or any of the major shave blogs. It just seemed like a solid starter razor. And so it has been!

Definitely try leesrazors.com (http://www.leesrazors.com/). Everyone's always recommending him, and apparently if you say you're on B&B, he'll be quick with the order. Direct quote from Lee himself: "never run out of 34C [HD] EVER"

or repeat customers for that matter, called him on the 24th at 4pm, package was posted the next day and got it on the 31st: not bad considering I live in Canada

I would pick up something cheap, like a Gillette, to tide you over and just wait a while. Like many fads I've seen over on the trumpet boards I frequent, I think this will die down in a month or so and then we'll be seeing a lot of high end stuff for sale here on the boards and ebay.

yeah, i e-mailed www.leesrazors.com and he said he would be in stock until friday, i can "reserve" my HD now.
but i just called www.knifecenter.com and changed my order to the Merkur classic, same thing as the HD but with a thinner handle
i just diddnt like the wording "reserve" that leesrazors sent me, make it sound like i MIGHT get one, since he said he would be out of stock of the HD friday, and wouldnt get any in for a week or two
he said that in the e-mail, he would be out of stock by friday, i just dont want to take that chance that he runs out of stock early

If you want an HD email Lee with "Hey, B&B member here looking to see if you have any HD in stock." Lee's response will be "No prob, can ship tomorrow if you'd like."
True story.

I just ordered mine less than a week ago from Charles at QED.
He made no mention of stock problems.
I had my order on my doorstep 2 days after i placed it. From Rhode Island to California. Can't beat that with a baseball bat.

500?
really?
the e-mail i recieved wednesday said that leesrazors would be out of stock by friday, and i MIGHT get one if i order before then.
and please, dont send e-mails in all capital letters lee, its not easy on the eyes
sorry if i'm paranoid, but i went through the runs with 4 website before i gave up.
1. Order Merkur HD, website says in stock
2. find out its not really in stock.
3. cancel order, order HD from another website that says in stock
4. find out its out of stock, cancel again
5. repeat
after i get the Merkur classic, i'll probably order a Merkur HD, and www.leesrazors.com is the website i will order it from
I shouldnt have doubted lee, i'm sorry, you will have my business in the future

There are plenty of variants of the Classic Murkur razors. I jumped right in with the Futur but Ive been lusting after the Slant Bar.

Bro - just got off the phone with Lee from Lees Razors. He said he has tons of Merkur HDs still left so order it from him.
His service is awesome - I called him up to check on my order and found that it had not been shipped yet. He was such a gracious guy and apologized numerous times. He told me that B&B customers get first dibs on anything - so order from him. Also he tossed in a tube of proraso green in my order due to the delay and is going to ship my order out in priority mail!!
I definitely recommend Lees Razors man - especially if you want HDs.

if i would have been told that there were "tons" in stock instead of "out of stock by Friday" i would have happily ordered from Leesrazors

Working stock in a retail clothes chain I can tell you that supply and demand chains can be fickle.
Sometimes you think you're gonna sell out, sometimes the shipment is late other times it's early, and sometimes the box of merchandise you're looking for is hidden under that "OTHER" box.
Saying that he's going to be "out by Friday" and actually being "out of stock" are two different things. As well as being having "none for about a week". I can recall several instances where I've told people that I had none in stock when I had plenty (clothing, not razors).
I don't understand why people are making such a big fuss over this, as my sister says: "it's retail, deal with it". Really though, in the end all that matters is you having a razor in your hands to begin shaving:001_smile .

You could have called him. Lee is very personable and nice on the phone. In fact if you had given him your name he would have put aside one for you.
