I decided to pull the trigger on ordering some Speick a couple of days ago, and got it in the mail tonight (thanks to Phil at Bullgoose (http://www.bullgooseshaving.net/) for the fast ship. I love that site!)...And I have to say that I am thoroughly disappointed. I was giddily excited about getting it so I built a test lather. I just couldn't wait.
While the lather it produced was magnificent, instead of the warm, spicy, masculine scent that everyone raves about, and which I was expecting, it turns out to be a just a lot of lavender:nonod:. I've seen people describe it as "heavenly" more than once; well, I don't know what heaven they believe in, but they can count me out.
I knew it contained lavender, but I expected the lavender to be a background note. That is definitely not the case; on the front of the box they even made sure to mention that they added extra. God, I hate lavender so much... It pains me to say, but I'm going to have to ditch the Speick unless it totally blows me away during tomorrow's shave.
On a side note the Speick AS splash that I ordered smells much nicer. Way less of the lavender. This makes me wonder if the Speick stick would have been the better choice.

I like the scent although I am not a big lavender fan either. I will have to give a good sniff next time.

I have had both the Speick stick and cream and they smell near identical IMO.

I was disappointed years ago. It irritates my face and since it's been the only product to do so, I was hugely disappointed. Lot's of folks are fortunate to be able to have it as a favorite.
Many people are sensitive to lavender. If you have sensitive skin, stay away from lavender.
Wow.... I love the stuff. Sorry you don't like it.

+1 Lather like that is tougher to build with most other creams, and I love the lavender (and the price). To each his own, or something like that.

I haven't tried the shave cream yet, but love the shave stick. I really like the scent of all the Speick products... I catch a lot of lavender in the bath soap, but only get a hint of it in the shave stick, aftershave, cologne and deo stick...

I thought I'd do an update. I've shaved with Speick twice now, and I am really impressed. The strong lavender scent dissipates if I get my lather going before my shower, so I don't have to worry too much about it. Though I'm still not impressed with the scent I must say that I may have to keep this one around. :thumbup1:

Yeah, On the front of my box and the tube it says "With relaxing Lavender" and on the German side "Mit entspannendem Lavendel." They may have changed the packaging. The splash doesn't say anything about lavender though.

I know it's not on the front of my box or tube. In fact, until you posted this, I never even knew it had lavender in it!

Same here. I never knew that either, and I'm probably on my third or fourth tube by now.

Well, my personal hate for lavender probably makes me notice it more than is necessary, but I can definitely smell it.

WTH? I never noticed Lavender in it. It's one of my favorite creams. I've probably used three tubes of it.

I love Speick, but I would never describe it as being spicy; a bit peppery maybe (especially the EdC) but surely not "spicy".
I like the cream, but until recently I didn't enjoy the soap stick that much. This last weekend I milled it into a tub and this morning's shave was much better.
Ah, in case you were wondering: IMHO the soap's scent is not as strong as the cream's.

I don't know. It's like nails on a chalkboard for my nose.
BTW, if you read the box is says something like:
Solidifies if it gets warmer than 80 degrees.

I'd have to say I'm a Speickaholic as I've loved every product I've tried. Though the scent isn't the same in each offering, they all seem to be solid performers at fair prices.

My box had the Lavender comment too.
For me, it is heavy on the lavender--which I adore. There is some slightly medicinal aspect to it too, which I think is the subtle scent of Speick

My box mentioned the Lavender. I think the cream has a slightly "bigger" scent than the stick, but I find them pretty similar smelling.
I don't notice the lavender.
I like both the stick and cream, and wish the ASB had the same scent. For me the ASB has more of a dried flower scent then the spicier scent of the stick.
I always get a great shave out of Speik.

I emailed Speik and asked:
"Is there lavender in the scent of Speik shave cream or not? The box and tube I have do not indicate lavender. There is discussion about this on this shave board.
http://badgerandblade.com/vb/showthread.php?t=132818&highlight=speik+lavender
Also, my tube and aftershave have this red and blue label. I have seen tubes that are all red. Are these just older style or something else/"
Here's their answer:
"thank you for your mail and your Speick Men Shaving Cream interest. We updated the print layout of our "Men" range and we have now a new Men design in blue and red .The products are unchanged. We have lavender oil as calming ingredient in the Speick Men Shaving Cream. Maybe you can't smell it, because the lavender oil is only one component of the fragrance."

As a rule, I don't like lavender (reminds me of my mother-in-law's house), but I love Speick. Must be a German heritage pride thing...

Speick cream could easily be my favourite lather generating product.

I like the scent, the lather, and the shave I get with Speick cream very much. My wife really likes the scent of the Speick cream and the aftershave balm too (on me, that is).
I've been alternating between Speick and Bigelow/Proraso cream for the last couple of weeks, and I think it's Speick for me by a nose. Both are really good to me and will be in rotation.
Today, however, I decided to switch back to some Conk amber soap for the morning shave and couldn't believe the difference. Even with building a decent lather and following all the same procedures as with the creams, the shave experience sucked so bad in comparison that I almost decided to grow a beard right there on the spot. My face has felt tight and dry all day, and I did a crappy job shaving. Back to the Speick tomorrow for sure!!!

actually, I had really bad luck with Col. Conk glycertine soaps. They seemed to be slick on my face, but after that first pass it felt like i rubbed a pineapple across my mug.
Col Conk in my rotation?? No says I

I says the same, I says! Back to Speick this morning, and back to a comfortable, close shave! What a relief. Bye-bye, Colonel.

I find Speik to smell slightly of cheap surfactants. Performance is solid but the smell does not bring me back like a Proraso or Men-u concentrate. Next on my list is Tabac to try which seems to generate a love/hate reaction for the fragrance.

I have to say Speick is the only lathering product I own that causes me to smile every time I smell it. As a man I feel that it is how I should smell... sappy, mossy, earthy.

I'd agree with that regarding the aftershave splash, not the cream.

I'd say Speick out-lathers Proraso any day of the week; even holidays.

Wow, I'm sorry. You need to diversify your shave portfolio!
I kid, but even if it lathers "better" it's no match in terms of shave quality. Proraso isn't all it's cracked up to be. It's very overrated.

Well I know that each cream is different for everybody, But I had high hopes for Speick, i was expecting an awesome lather like Proraso, but it hasn't workout from me yet..??, Dont get me wrong, i still get great shaves, but the proraso lathers better for me, maybe am not getting the cream to water ratio right.:em2300:
