SOLD
I am finally coming to my senses and getting my AD under control. I bought this Merkur HD (a.k.a. 34C or #178) new on Amazon and used it probably 5 times total. Since then I switched to adjustables (Merkur Futur and Gillette Fatboy which I bought here on this forum). Personally, I like the adjustables more so I don't think I will be using HD and it needs a new loving home. As you probably know, Merkur HD is a very forgiving razor and is recommended for anyone starting out. I have the original box it came in as well as the original Merkur blade that came with it still in the wrapper so it is in like new condition without a scratch on it. I am also including a few sample blades for you to try (10 total, different brands) and brand new Van Der Hagen Glycerin shaving soap. The kit also includes a starter brush - Tweezerman Badger brush also bought on Amazon and used 10 times total. It's a good beginner badger brush and works great with both soaps and creams. It shed a few hairs but was used very little so it may still shed or may not after it is broken in. All you need to add is an after shave of your choice and you are good to go. Here is the picture of the kit:

Paid ~ $55.00 for razor and brush. Asking $45 for the kit shipped in continental US, PayPal. Any questions, just PM. Thanks.

I haven't heard anything from the lurker who PMd yesterday, so it is still available. Bump for the day.

I'd have grabbed this if I hadn't already outfitted myself. Certainly looks like a good deal for a newbie such as myself. Good luck with sale.

Patience is a virtue. You should be getting a PayPal from my wife sometime today.

On the lurker comment, It has been my experience that to listen is to learn. To speak is to reinforce. I have yet to learn enough to start to reinforce.

Chris, my apologies on the lurker comment, you are correct that it was inappropriate (especially since I am relatively new here myself) but that was under your name tag since you had 0 posts and I guess I just did a mental cut-n-paste here. To give you more then just an apologies - I will throw in a couple of feather blades into the kit as well as few other samples as a surprise.

Welcome to B&B!

Welcome Chris. I have the exact same setup you just purchased. It SHOULD be all you need and you will, most likely, love it.

However, if I was a betting man I would say you just started on a (very enjoyable) slippery slope.

I frequent a few other forums (I have a passion for electric guitars) and this place BY FAR is the biggest group of gentlemen I've ever encountered on the internet.

Oh yeah, careful with those Feathers.

Kind of curious. That's a HD or 34C but that's not a #178 is it? I think i have a #178 and it's a little different?

I only ask because those are good pictures, and i'm sorta confused.

Hi Chris,

I just checked the package mine came in. It has the same "Best Nr" and bar code number as the one pictured above. The other side of the box is marked 178. Mine looks identical.

thanks, obviously not accusing anybody of wrong anything. Everything is clearly pictured, just a bit lost on the terminology I suppose. My bad.

My bad.I can relate, I was confused as well when I was looking for it myself. After reading numerous sites, I confirmed that #178 is the same as HD and the same as 34C. This is a direct response from Merkur which I found in this thread (http://badgerandblade.com/vb/showthread.php?t=70081) (see post number 10 by cesium):

Just got word back from Merkur (and very quickly I might add)
Their answer:
I am sure I can clarify this: # 34C is our own MERKUR item No., # 178 is the
same razor, but the No. is the article No. the dealer assigned to it.

Your stuff is packed in the box and will go out tomorrow morning. Hope you'll enjoy it.

Thanks Chris and thanks B&B!

Thanks, I appreciate the quick response. I bought a straight a few weeks ago and sharpened it with some 3m paper to 3 microns and am stropping it on a belt. I have been shaving with it for about 10 shaves so far and it is going well. I was hoping to use it for my head (bald), but things become impossible quick when I get to the back... I am excited to use the HD on my head. We shall see.

Everything arrived as described. Many Thanks!
Can anyone advise what a good blade would be to cut my teeth on?
Thanks
