View Full Version : What to do with blades between uses?

Leave 'em in the razor?
Put them in a can of alcohol?
Dip 'em in vaseline?
Cork 'em? (how do you cork a DE blade anyway?)
Does it even matter?

Welcome to B&B.
I usually take the blade out of the razor and put them back in their packaging between shaves (making sure they have been dried). Don't really need to do much more and at the current per blade price I wouldn't bother trying to preserve them!

All I do is rinse the razor and give it a shake. I use a blade three or four times and toss so a blade sitting in the razor is not going to hurt a thing.
Don't over think this. It's wet shaving....enjoy it!

I started a similar thread not long ago. You could read through this (http://badgerandblade.com/vb/showthread.php?t=124845).

Me, too. Been doing the same thing for 30 years. Never had a problem with blades or razors.

What Ray said. Just shake the razor dry and leave the blade in place. Why risk fumbling it and cutting yourself. Oh, and welcome to b&b!

Same as what's being said, it's not going to be a long time so just leave it in, much less hassle.
Like others, I rinse and leave in the razor.

Ditto... Rinse and Repeat about 4 times

Yup, me too - although I typically get about 12-14 shaves out of a Feather Pro blade.

Unless you use Shogun blades, of course. In which case it's safer to leave them in the box, never put them in your razor, and store them in the trash until garbage day :thumbdown

Chris --
Blades are a non-maintenance item, R&R (Remove and Replace) only.
Rinse well, shake excess water off the razor/blade, and leave it in the razor until you're ready for a blade swap.

I keep a little spritz bottle of rubbing alcohol around and zap the blade with it at the end of a shave. I get another shave or two out of the blade and it gets the scum off easier.

I take mine out and let them dry separate from the razor, after dunking both in a jar of 91% alcohol.

I feel like I read this question earlier, but couldn't find the post... anyway, I leave my blades in the razor. Don't want to mess around with installs in the morning when I wake up, plus I don't want to keep taking it out and putting it back in.

spray bottle with alcohol in it (91%) which a spray onto the blade, let sit while I clean up, and rinse with water. I do this to help avoid "razor bumps" etc...read online somewhere that cleaning the blade helps...

Just FYI, rinsing with water after you spray it with alcohol sort of defeats the purpose. Water and oxidization are the big corroding factors that dull your blade edge, the alcohol evaporates much more quickly and keeps water off the edge.
If they are Derbys, I just let my kid play with them. Feathers go to the top shelf.

Thanks, good to know. Although I do let the alcohol dry I am done with the rinse process. Alcohol only from now on.
