I'm not gonna deny Manning is fantastic quarterback... but he is a whinny little baby that pouts if things arn't going his way...blaming his O-Line or receivers. He is not a team player. However I don't think the Colts would have won 3 games this season if they didn't have him. He is their whole team.

I hope the Saints make his day very long tomorrow.

Go Saints! (bitter Packers Fan...still angry about that Arizona loss.)

However I don't think the Colts would have won 3 games this season if they didn't have him. He is their whole team.

These might me the most ridiculous statements I've ever read on B&B.

Lets break it down:

he is a whinny little baby that pouts if things arn't going his way...blaming his O-Line or receivers.

Peyton Manning is one of, if not, the most humble QB in the league, possibly ever. He is the first to admit when he's had a bad day or when he screwed up.

He is not a team player

The first words out of Manning's mouth after winning a record setting 4th MVP award was that "he couldn't do it without his team". He said similar things the first three times he won it. He said similar things after winning the SB XLI MVP award and generally says the same things after every win. He always gives credit where credit is due and takes responsibility when he falls short. Another thing many seem to forget is all of the times he has voluntarily restructured his contract to keep TEAMmates with the Colts. Marvin Harrison, Reggie Wayne, Bob Sanders (just to name a few) all may have gone somewhere else if Manning hadn't restructured his contract to give the TEAM more wiggle room with the salary cap so they'd get the pay they felt they deserved.

I don't think the Colts would have won 3 games this season if they didn't have him. He is their whole team.

Do I think the Colts would be Super Bowl caliber without Peyton, absolutely not! However, they have enough weapons (that are so obviously overlooked and blatantly disrespected) that they'd at least be a .500 team even without Manning.

Pierre Garcon, Austin Collie, Dallas Clark, Reggie Wayne, Bob Sanders, Robert Mathis, Joseph Addai, Antoine Bethea, Gary Bracket, Melvin Bullitt, Ryan Diem, Dwight Freeney, Kelvin Hayden, T.J. Rushing, Jeff Saturday, Clint Session, Matt Stover, Adam Vinatieri....

These are guys on both sides of the ball. This is a team. Any of these guys could be starters at their respective positions with any other team in the NFL.

You don't land 6 Pro-Bowl selections because of a great QB, you land 6 Pro-Bowl selections because of a GREAT TEAM!

You don't get the best record in FOOTBALL HISTORY in ANY decade on the shoulders of one man. That is only possible through a heroic TEAM effort.

You don't have an NFL record setting 7 come from behind wins in a single season because of one man, that takes TEAM effort and TEAM players.

As my daughter would say when she's sees something totally ridiculous:

EPIC FAIL

It drives me nuts when people let hate and vitriol determine how they respond to things. It is one thing to say, "I don't like Peyton Manning" or "I don't like the Colts" it is something altogether different to imply or say that they aren't a good great TEAM.

For example, I think Tom Brady and Bill Bellichick aren't very good people but there is no denying that they are a good coach and a good QB. I also think Drew Brees is a great QB when he's on but he's not Manning caliber. I'd never blatantly disrespect anyone (sports, politics, religion etc.) simply because they aren't my personal favorites. I believe in giving respect where respect is due. I'm a Colts fan so naturally I don't cheer for the Patriots but I'd never deny the fact that they are a solid NFL organization and they had a great run.

/rant

EDIT:
(bitter Packers Fan...still angry about that Arizona loss.) I understand why you are a Manning hater. He's on course to thrash EVERY one of Favre's NFL records (except perhaps the INT record).

In all seriousness, I have nothing against the Saints. I don't want them to win, but if another team has to win the Super Bowl against the Colts, I don't mind it being the Saints. The city has been through hell, the team has stunk for most of its history, Brees seems like a good guy (even if he is a tiny fella) and when I was a kid, I thought the black and gold colors were awesome. The only thing I don't like about the team is Reggie Bush, who just annoys me. A lot.

I just hope it's a great game. A lot of times it seems that when the match-up is almost too good to be true, the game isn't so great. We had some great Super Bowls last decade, so I'm optimistic!

Paul, I'm a Sig too. And do you actually know any Sigs from Purdue in that time frame? I know lots of them, being one isn't exactly something to brag about.

And second off, I knew Drew Breez fairly well in college, he's a great quarterback but since you're talking about him personally, he's an epic tool.

And since you bring up Sigma Chi, does the fact that he's one mean anything to you, really? I couldn't care less if someone was in the same fraternity I was at another school or at another time, I've got much better criteria on which to judge people.

Brees is a tool. He had an agent in college. I tried getting an autograph after a game he played at Northwestern and he refused to sign anything for anyone (I was a kid back then). His agent was pushing little kids away. This was the moment I knew Drew Brees was a prick of the finger.

The Saints definitely played well. Brees butchered the Colts secondary. It was paper thin. It seemed like every time he let the ball go, the receiver caught it. 32/39 for 288 yards. That's really the difference maker right there. Manning played well, but the Saints defense made him really work for it.

The three biggest plays, in my opinion (not in any specific order):

1. Pierre Garcon dropping the catch on third down. Not only would it have been a first down, but as the commentator said, it would have been a footrace around the corner. Garcon is fast and could have beaten the CB to the end zone. Maybe. Either way, that drop forced the Colts to punt and that began the Saints second quarter time of possession dominance.

2. The onside kick. It resulted in the Saints taking the lead; and though Manning led a TD drive when the Colts did get the ball back, it really swung the momentum for the Saints.

3. The INT, obviously.

Oh, and I think the Saints are the better team. Manning is a better quarterback than Brees and the Colts' receivers are better than the Saints' receivers, but the Saints have a solid defense, whereas the Colts defense behind the front line is flimsy. The loss of Bob Sanders was HUGE, because he's their Troy Polamalu Jr. This has pretty much always been the Colts problem, as long as Manning had played. They just can't protect his leads. That's why he's had so many fourth quarter comebacks in his career. And it's also why Brady was able to dominate him for so many years.

castlecraver
02-07-2010, 07:35 PM
You and I don't disagree often but whar game were yo watching?????

Same game you were buddy... I didn't say "the" better team. They defintely weren't tonight that's for sure. Factor out injuries, the onside kick, and one poor decision by Manning (seriously, he had another receiver open! gah!!), 9 times out of 10 the Colts win that game. It was perfectly executed and perfectly coached by the Saints with no mistakes, and they took advantage of Colts' mistakes to pull it out.

A shining example of how despite everything, "this is why they play the games"

It would have been karma in advance as Bob Sanders only played two games. The guy is practically Samuel L. Jackson in Unbreakable. It seems like every season he's on IR. At this point, I'd just prefer that they trade him to get someone who is GOOD, but consistent.

Not to be too harsh on Manning, but the only ring he has came at the expense of Rex Grossman. Great regular season QB, but generally average during the playoffs.

He is one of the most generous, gracious stars I've ever seen. Definitely the better QB tonight.

Not to be too harsh on Manning, but the only ring he has came at the expense of Rex Grossman. Great regular season QB, but generally average during the playoffs.

It's not a lightsaber duel. People like to make these things out as BRADY VS MANNING or MANNING VS BREES, but it's more Manning vs. the Saints defense. And even that is not accurate.

Oh boy, all the "who dats" I heard last night still give me chills. The city went from dead quiet to frenzied after Porter's interception.

That has been my perception of him since he came to New Orleans. What's more, he is one of the players on the team who made this season so special. Brees, Sharper, Shockey and the other players who had been cast off by other teams...

Congrats Henry. As the husband of a lifelong Saints fan, I have at least an inkling of how psyched you must be.

Thank you. It is a rare, wonderful feeling. I hope your wife and all Saints fans are as thrilled as I am. Makes the 30+ years as a fan seem a bearable price.

It's more than just the winning. It is a symbol of hope in a state that's had 4 hurricanes and is still rebuilding. This has taken us from down in the dumps to a place of pride and motivation. Its now up to the rest of us to carry the ball.

This is why it's hard for me to be upset that the Saints won. On the other side of the coin, you have Jeremy Shockey, a completely unlikable asshat. And Reggie Bush. I don't know why, but I really have it out for that guy.

I know some other guys that do as well. I think it likely goes back to the desire of most people to have athletes reach superstar status after accomplishing something significant at a professional level. I don't have anything against him, but I do "get it"

Joe Montana is still the best QB ever no matter what Manning or Brady or Favre do. This coming from a Giants fan.

I never liked Montana, but what you say is true.

I'd say it has given hope to the entire region - at least as far east as Mobile. But as a life long Saints fan, winning the Super Bowl is just exactly wonderful.

The Saints were the best second half team in the NFL this year. This has been said by many commentators and proven on the field. Yesterday's game was no different. Everybody will get a shot at winning the Lombardi Trophy next season. But, we finally got ours and we earned it fair and square. Too bad there are still naysayers, some here, and in the national sports media.

Most of us here in La. are just learning to accept this bias and take it in stride. We know better. Football is a really tough, competitive sport. I don't disparage any team because I love football and enjoy watching any team play well. I think they all play hard to win. So , here's the truth, for now...

Who Dat say they gonna beat them Saints ?

Apparently not enough teams and not when it counted

Yeah, I think that's most likely it. For instance, I always disliked Michael Vick. Looooooooooooooooooooong before the dog fighting thing, I couldn't stand him. I think it's because everybody had a big stiffy for him when he came out of college and ever since then, people have almost apologized for him. Apologizing that he never lived up to the hype. You would always hear (I'm speaking about him when he was the QB of the Falcons, before the scandal) about all his talent and how capable he is. But he never did anything. He could run around and evade tacklers and he had a rocket arm, but he couldn't hit the broad side of a barn. Same with Bush. You always hear about what an explosive player he is and how he can turn the game around, but how often does he do it? Hardly ever.

There was an article this season about how we shouldn't think of Reggie Bush as a flop. No, he's not a flop, but he's a monumental disappointment. He was the number one pick. He's supposed to be playing like Chris Johnson is playing. Like Adrian Peterson is playing. Every now and then he'll return a punt or catch a slant for a TD, but as a whole, the guy has definitely not lived up to the hype. So, I'm totally sick of hearing about how he COULD do this or COULD do that. And he has this cocky attitude on the field, like he's putting up numbers like Barry Sanders, or something. Have a piece of humble pie, chief, you're a backup.

For the most part, my loathing for him is not his fault. He could be a really, really great person, but I love rooting against him.

That name instills so much rage. Why Lovie trotted that POS out there in the second half.

That last quarter was GOLD! Maybe not as exciting as this year's CFL finale though. :001_tongu
