View Full Version : Shaving for a purpose tonight
Hello,
I've only been here a few weeks. The sense of community and quality of information is outstanding.
My shaves have been getting better and better. 2 days ago, if I may be so bold, I believe I achieved a DFS. Certainly the best shave I can ever remember. It was comfortable too. My daily shaves are also comfortable and largely of very good quality.
I have largely resisted acquisition disorder so far but I'm starting to weaken. Weaken in not that I expect new product to give me a new shave but instead new product to give me a new experience. I really like being able to mix and match scents and after shaves to give me a specific experience. (My wife really likes certain products). I want to try it all!
Tonight is a surprise birthday party for a friend. I have spent more time thinking about and planning the timing of my pre-event shave than anything else.
Thanks guys.

I can definitely appreciate that. I've discovered that I do much more planning in my shave than before, the fact that I do look forward to the experience of my shave. I'm a new father of twins and my wife and I don't get a lot of time to get away and do the stuff we used to do to defray the stress of daily life. Now the stress has tripled and to add to our normal stress load and the stress of having twins, we don't have much time for one another.
So, this new--what do we call it? hobby? lifestyle? obsession?--is a way for me to try to kill two birds with one stone: The experience is a nice stress-relieving diversion; I enjoy it despite the fact that, as a newbie only a week-and-a-half in, my shaves are not quite of the consistent quality that I'm gunning for. Also, with smoother shaves and really nice-smelling products, I'm hoping to encourage my wife to work with me to make time for one another. Actually, I count three birds I'm killing with the aforementioned stone.

Hey Rez, thanks for posting.
I understand the preoccupation with planning your shave. I do the same thing. I did not switch from cartridge to DE for the "shave experience", I switched because of razor bumps and irritation. Well the bumps and irritation did indeed go away, but the pleasant surprise has been creating a daily ritual that brings me joy and happiness.
(If you had told me a few months ago that I would write the above paragraph, I would have claimed you crazy!)

Just be careful - the worst shaves always come when you try too hard. Just let the shave happen, don't put a lot of pressure on yourself!

Gerat to have you here. The shaves just keep getting better. I don't remember who said it above, but just let the shave happen. Have a great time at the party. Larry
