I learned how to shave with a DE but for some reason switched to disposables in college. After twenty years of crappy shaving I have returned to the fold. I picked out a Merkur Futur, a cheapy badger brush, had some Tom's of Maine and /viola/ a clean shave. A pleasant experience.
Thank you for all the assistance that can be gleaned from the members in the forums. Time to start buying too many razors, creams, soaps and blades. Am I missing anything????

Get an alum bar next. Mama Bear (http://www.bear-haven.com/Page3.html) sells one and a nice wooden rack for it.
Welcome, Smoov
,,, Later you will realize that DE is just an elegent entry into straights and you will need stones, pastes, strops, and straights,,, when I count to 3 you will open your eyes,,,
Regards,
Zig

Thank you.
BTW, the alum bar is at the bottom of the page of soaps. I just got her Vanilla Cream and used it this morning. Wonderful!

The Futur is a fine instrument. A bit larger than the DE I had in my past life but not too unwieldy. Taking the common advice of starting at one and working my way up to a more aggressive but yet still comfortable 2.5 I have had great success.
AS far as brushes go, I have a cheapy badger and am looking for a suitable replacement. C&E Best Badger sounds like it will be the one to try next. So count me in on the brush-buyers program...do I get extra miles or something???
Suggestions are always appreciated.

I have the C&E Best Badger, the best $35 I have spent. Highly recommended. I think that would be the consenses on here.

The Galleria in Dallas offers some shaving supplies. Nordstrom, The Art of Shaving, C&E and L'Occitane. Oh and the Body Shop. Also the Shave shop in Euless. Enjoy.

If you can convince yourself to spend the $75, the Rooney Style 2 Super Silvertip (http://www.classicshaving.com/catalog/item/2053630/2184478.htm) or the Rooney Style 3 Small Super Silvertip (http://www.classicshaving.com/catalog/item/2053630/2184242.htm) would be a GREAT brush, IMHO.
I have got you beat. I started with electrics when I was thirteen and never got a good shave ever. Finally gave them up at thirty-nine. That's twenty-six lost years. I guess salvation is never to late.

Welcome, SmoovD!
Another DE shaver returns to the fold! :thumbup1:
You MUST check out the B&B brush! As Marty said, "RESISTANCE IS FUTILE!"
The Dallas area has quite a contingency, here on B&B! I would say that there are enough to start an AD (Acquisition Disease) support group!
See you around, SmoovD!

A support group sounds find...just as long as we can acquire some fine single malts along the way. If I am going to have a disorder I might as well enjoy myself while I am at it.
