Recently picked up a nice #22 (I think) and I’ve been reading through some past threads on the #66. Seems these two razors are virtually identical apart from:
• They were sold in different style cases (doesn’t help me because mine has no case)
• One has patent pending in the blade tray while the other has a patent number 694030.
So am I right in saying if mine has patent pending it’s a #22?

Hoping for a razor guru to help out on this, although I don’t really mind whether it’s a #22 or #66 because it’s such a beauty.

I’ve attached a couple of photos if that helps.

Also looked at Mr Razor's site here for verification http://www.j-duwe.de/Rasierer/One-Piece%20solid%20guard%20bar/1949%20Aristocrat%20No22.JPG

I really don't know anything yet about the British Gillettes. But whatever that razor may be called, it is beautiful! Nice find!!!

I'm pretty sure that the #22 & #66 are considered one and the same except for the differences that you have accurately pointed out.

I'm afraid I also don't have the other to do the comparison.

I believe they are identical but for the case.

My aluminum 66 has "pat. pending" in the blade tray; my heavy 66 has a patent number.

This is how I've understood it as well. I still need to pickup an aluminum #66 though...

My rodium plated #66 has "Patent Pending" on the blade tray. My case is identical to the 1953 "Coronation" set except for the crown on the case.

x2 I also have a Rhodium 66, patent pending, but in a 22 case:lol:

I remember that one of the old members here told me it was a 66 (later confirmed by few others) so there must be a code, or something like that, to identify them.
