First shave with the Bartman and its not bad - could use a few more swipes on the .5 paste, but a nice shave.
The real story is the Honeybee soap - I've been wanting to try this stuff for a while as it has gotten good reviews. I've used the amber and cedarwood/amber and this stuff is simply one of the best soaps I've used. Although I think its scented with FOs. Lather's like a champ and is one of the few soaps that doesn't seem to dry my skin out.

Grabbed a tube of Proraso @ Target over the weekend, today is my first shave with it and I'm fairly impressed. When I was working with it initially, I was a bit disappointed with the feel and the smell, but all that changed after the first pass. I'm definitely grooving on the cooling sensation! I'm guessing that this will become my summer staple SC.
I finally got a BBS shave on the R side of my neck, below the jawline, which has been one of my problem areas. However, it came at the high cost of many nicks in the area--I looked like I'd been shot with a miniature scattergun, and that STINGS with the styptic pencil (the least enjoyable part of my shave). If anyone has any advice, please PM me!

Finished up by slathering on some more of the Vaseline. I have very dry skin, so I love the moisturizing, and it soaks in quickly. No scent, but you wouldn't really expect that.

One pass WTG, one ATG everywhere but chin (two passes ATG)
Got a couple nicks, blade has two or three shaves on it, but BBS almost all t eway round, never can get my neck as smooth as I'd like, but very nice everywhere else. Finished up by slathering on some more of the Vaseline. I have very dry skin, so I love the moisturizing, and it soaks in quickly. No scent, but you wouldn't really expect that.
Oh yea, and Rammstein-Rammstein is a good song. Ya'll should take a listen.

Mama Bear's Dragon's Blood (1st time using this and it was GREAT...smells like some store in the French Quarter but I can't put my finger on which one...shaved great too)
Alum [1st time using this as well...man, today was a day of firsts for me--the alum was actually really nice feeling being rubbed arund my face, and while I was told by my wife and others that it would burn a lot (she used to use this as deodorant and just had it lying around...when I said I was interested in trying this she pulled it out of the drawer) it was actually really soothing and left my face feeling "tight" in a good way]

Sorry about all of the digressions during my description...I just tried so many new things today I wanted to describe my reactions. Basically, after about 6 days with increasingly uncomfortable shaves and increasing redness/irritation I have had a wonderful shave and my face feels GREAT. It was pretty unscientific of me to try so many new things at once (as I don't know which one was primarily responsible for the shave improvement), but I was desperate to get a better shave quickly. I was also ultra-careful today about pressure (I returned to Kyle's method for holding the razor) so I'm sure that helped.
OK...I am done.

The CADE and Vetyver got it's first use this morning as well: The CADE scent doesn't blow me away (reminds me of granny's cold cream) but my face feels GREAT!!! It shaves really well. But the blade really makes the difference. The last time I shaved with it was with a generic Rite-Aid blade. That was a brutal shave. This time, I cut a Feather blade to size to create the famous Featherjector. Result: a nice smooth shave.

Was horrified afterwards to find that the gold label had come off my CH1... and I think it must've washed down the plughole at some point during the shave.......!
Nice shave though. The Wilkinson Sword shave soap seems to be a lot better when lathered directly onto the face. It only seemed to form a thin coating of lather (don't know whether that's the norm or whether my lathering skills need improving..), but nevertheless it seemed to give very good protection from the Tesco blade.

01-24-2007, 10:28 PM
I'm curious, how did you cut the blade and install it in the razor:confused:
Very carefully! :001_tt2:
No, really. I tried a bunch of methods to cut a Feather blade to size, all with varying degrees of success. The best, safest, and cleanest I've come up with has been with a pair of endnipper pliers. Using the pliers, I cut the Feather blade inside a plastic baggie. The baggie serves two purposes. First, it prevents the blade from ejecting violently from the pliers, potentially causing body damage. Second, any tiny stray shards of blade get left in the bag, and you're not left picking them up on a counter.
After I cut the blades to size, I use tweezers to insert them into an injector, which is used to load the blades into the razor.
Of course, you can avoid all the hassle by purchasing Ted Pella blades (http://www.tedpella.com/dissect_html/dissect.htm#anchor1586278). I've read that they're excellent blades, and of the right size for Schick razors.

Correct, I use Ted Pella in my Schick Eversharp injector and they work quite well. A word of warning though, even the treated blades will begin to discolor and rust after a few uses. This is not a problem if you change blades at a normal frequency but you'll be in for a surprise if you leave your razor in a drawer for a bit.
In my other razors I'm a 95% of the time Derby user and I find that the Ted Pella blades treat me pretty much the same as a Derby if that helps for comparison sake.

This was a different shave. The feel of a wedge is so different. You can feel the heft of a wedge's edge when compared to a half hollow or a quarter hollow edge. Nevertheless, the experience was great and resulted in a smooth BBS shave. I was somewhat proud since I honed this blade. But I'm still nowhere near honemeister quality but it is good and smooth. The edge could be sharper.

Anherb a/s gel
Penhaligon Quercus (sample)
finally, I'm feeling more like a human being, so a nice shave with my straight razor and a great vintage soap from the 30's, and that put me in a great frame of mind!

I had not been happy with the lather from the burt's bees (very soupy, runny) so I added a little kiss my face unscented and some glycerin and...VOILA! It was a GREAT lather...very slick. I had a GREAT shave today and the bay rum scent from the burt's bees is really nice.

Tried 2 new things today -- the Fatboy and TGQ soap. Loved them both. The TGQ soap generated the MOST lather of any soap I've tried so far.. but I think that might be just the result of my increasing experience with making proper lather. VERY slick, and the Orange Patchouli scent is out of this world. :w00t:
Tried the Fatboy on 5 for the first pass... figured that was pretty middle-of-the-road for a setting, and I've read a couple times on here that a "5" setting closely mimics a Merkur HD with blade exposure. Had some pretty bad dragging and skipping, so dialed it down to "3" and then "1" for the second pass. By the time the third pass came around, I had my technique/angle properly adjusted for the new razor, and cranked it up to "7". BBS smooth all around! DOUBLE:w00t: !!
That Jack Black stuff is utter crap. I'm glad I'm through all my samples of that now, so I know what NOT to buy... EVER. As always, YMMV.
