Here is a sneak peak at the new pattern for the Spike that I recieved from one of our B&B members this christmas.
I've got *plans* for this baby.
This set of scales will be open background and engraved details.

Cheers!

Here's a look at the finished pattern. The scales will be 5.5" x 5/8" and are taken from the origional set of scales.

enjoy! :w00t:

According to this page (http://www.cets.sfasu.edu/nachis.html), it's Nacogdoches... Other top hits on Google are El Paso and East Texas. :tongue_sm

Got to play in the shop today.
I was doing fairly well, till I realised that I'm adveraging 7 - 8 cuts in an area the size of a dime. :w00t:

anyhoo....here's a progress pic for wed.
I'm using 20ga. nickle instead of 16. This is about 4 hrs. of cutwork in this shot.

enjoy

Do you cut both sides together or is this one scale only?

I tend to cut one scale at a time. I've tried to cut two layers at the same time before, and it's actually faster and easier for me to do them one at a time.

I've got the interior sanded and filed down. Of course after looking at the pics that I took, there are a couple shots that I missed. :001_rolle I'll get them later.
With openings this small sanding is done by cutting wet/dry 400 grit into strips between 1/8" and 1/16" wide and threading them through the holes. Then sand in an up and down motion.
I went ahead and put some fill into the lines to make them stand out better, so ya'll can see the engraving easier.

everyone have a wonderful weekend!

WOW... amazing detail do you make custom scales to sell?

Yes, I do.
Starting this year, I'm going to open my own custom metalworking shop. I'm working on the webpage, so I'm not quite up and running, but that should be soon.
If you are interested in a commissioned piece please pm me for details.

Thanks!

btw. The Williams in the other thread is my first commissioned set of scales.
I think Seth likes them. :tongue_sm

:a47:WOW:a47:

Man, that is just awesome! it's making me sad though :cryin:

Cos there's no WAY I'll be able to afford a commission as nice as that, I'd be suspecting there's somewhere in the realm of 50-100 hours of work in the engraving alone :drool::drool:

Still, :a47: damn fine work! seriously awesome stuff

:drool::drool::drool:
Anyone got a napkin here? cos I'm makin a mess all over my shirt...
