Haven't seen the topic on B&B and was curious whether anyone here plays golf? There's got to be a few.

I received a couple new sticks (driver, putter, lob wedge) for Christmas and I'm anxious to give them a try. Unfortunately, its 30 degrees here and I'm not a cold weather golfer.

As long as I can golf, I will never need therapy. It doesn't matter how well I play, I still have a great time.

I wish I played more. I get around 20 rounds a year.

My parents live on a golf course so I get to play everyday.

I worked on the weekends walk mowing the greens in the morning so I could play for free. This summer I played everyday until I found a real job. I havent played since

I love golfing. Great exercise, and it helps me relax after a rough day at the office. My current employer gives all staff a free golf membership, so that saves me a ton of money. I also live on an island that is only about 2000 square miles, and a good portion of that land is golf courses. And since it's small, you can golf more than one course in one day. Check it out!

Have you had a chance to play the course that the Golf Channel used for the Big Break? It looked like a really nice course.

Ah Mill River Resort. Yep, golfed it last summer. Beautiful course. My friend and I had a tee off time at 5:30 am and we were the only ones there, so we took our time. Best round I've ever had. I'd certainly recommend it to avid golfers.

Yep, although I don't get to play as often as I would like too. However its sumer here in Oz and I've enjoyed four rounds over the Xmas New Year break which has been fun.

I'm fortunate that I live near a driving range, and can go and have a hit from time to time. I find it helps keep some touch. :wink2:

I played often until two years ago. Now itching to ease back into it. Contact me if you want to play in the Austin area - after I hit the driving range a bit to work out the rust.

What a way to ruin a great walk!

Mark Twain aside i love playing golf. Im terrible with my short irons but I can crush my 2-5 irons. Cant hit the broad side of a barn with my drivers though. Still its a great way to spend an afternoon.

Will do Bill...thanks. Can you tell me what has happened to Lyons Golf Course? Last I hear, they wanted to sell it for condos. I use to live a couple blocks from there while in school and would play several days a week. Love that little course.

By golf, you mean ruin a good walk? Sure, I've been playing off and on since I was big enough to swing a club.

My dad is what you might call a golf-aholic, so naturally I've been a golfer since I learned how to stand on my two feet. We lived just beside the 14th hole of our local country club, so I have fond memories of hopping on at twilight for a quick four holes before it got too dark - dodging sprinklers all the while. My dad was also a regular in the "noon group" of golfers, and I always loved to tag along and eventually drive the cart. Now whenever I'm back in town I always join up with the group to play.

I played a couple junior tournament circuits - the Kansas Junior Golf Association and the Northwest Kansas Junior Golf Association - and played a year on the varsity team at my high school. But all that competitive golf really started to burn me out, especially when a shoulder injury led to some swing problems I couldn't shake.

Took a few years off, and then in college I rediscovered the pleasure of a good round. There's nothing quite like 18 holes on a beautiful day.

Love the game and wish I could play more.
Luckily, during the summer here, there's a group of guys I play with every Tuesday afternoon after work. It's a friendly informal league. Some of us can get to the course early enough to get 18 holes in, but most just play the front 9. Wish I could get out more on the weekends and over the winter though.

Same here...grew up on the 4th hole of the country club in my small town, played a lot of junior tournaments in high school, played varsity golf in high school and won medalist at our district tournament. Played so much in high school that I didn't play golf for a year after high school, difficult to re-learn how to play for fun.

I've played on and off for a long time. My dad loves golf and played all over the place including St. Andrews. He'd always ask me if I wanted lessons but finally I worked up the nerve to ask him to get me some this upcoming spring. It's a great game and a good place to go to escape SWMBO.

Very nice...do you need to be a member of these clubs to play them or just a lot of cash for green fees?

Unfortunately not a member of St.Andrews or Carnoustie :thumbdown
Too expensive and, The waiting list to join them are absurd 20 years or more !:w00t:

Green Fees are astronomical, and any time I go to St.Andrews its only rich Americans and Japanese I see playing there

I play a local course in Dundee called Camperdown

I'm another Central Texas resident who used to play A LOT of golf, but now never plays.

When I first moved to Austin I was single, with a good job and friends in the golf industry - having plenty of free time and plenty of disposable income meant I played OFTEN (much of the time for free, actually).

Now I'm married, have two young daughters (2 and 4, soon to be 3 and 5) and most of my old cohorts have moved on to others places/things. Translation: no time, no money, and no playing partners means I NEVER play golf any more.

In the last 3 years I think I've played just once, and that was when a friend called me and asked me to sub in a tournament where one of their guys bailed at the last minute.

I should figure out a way to get back into it...

I just got back from a holiday with the family and I took my clubs to play a few rounds with my father. Several seasons ago I bought him a set of clubs in honor of his retirement. Now, he swings his clubs three times a week and walks all 18 holes. We are pretty evenly matched despite our handicaps it seems now. In fact, he seems to outdrive me 50% of the time (he lets me know this on the tee). Being busy my game has fallen way off and his just keeps rising. Luckily for me, he's still yippie on the short putts so I have a chance to gain a stroke back occasionally. I need it because dad is known for playing an underhanded joke on me every now and then (he placed an exploding ball on my tee on our last game). I'm really glad I got him those clubs. It has made for great father/son bonding, and his health and finess is great. He has really taken to the game and remains a competitor.

Here's a couple shots of us at our favorite muni course at Kahuku on O'ahu. Six bucks for me and four for my father! Great ocean views, a poor man's Pebble Beach if there ever was one!

2nd pic.... your grip is wrong , feet are to close together, your back is not straight, your head is up ....

Therefore. my conclusion ... is you scored a 6 on the par 3 !!!!!

I worked for a company up here in Canada that owns the most golf courses in Ontario.
One of the perks when working there: free golf.

This summer, I put in about two rounds a week.

Highlight of golf so far: I played Canada's most prestigious course, Glen Abbey, twice--both times on a Monday morning at 9:30.

Course was empty. My friends and I felt like kings.

I live in Southern California and we have a good amount of courses out here.

My brother-in-law is an avid golfer but lives out East. He came out on vacation this past week and took me out for the first time. I absolutely love it!!!!

I have a course on base (I'm active duty military) about 2 miles away from my office. I'm gong to visit it more often.

It's getting to that point where the best/worst season starts.

I love to golf. I love going to driving ranges. I love going to used sports shops to check out if there are new gizmos out there.

Problem is.... I am horrible.

I quite possibly could be one of the worst golfers out there.

The last round I played was in September. It was a 9 hole round and I was at least a +12 (I stopped counting at that point) and lost probably 10 balls in the process. I always laugh that had I not stopped playing when I was in college I could actually be competative at golf but after a 6 year layoff, I think I forgot all of the training that I was taught. I would love to get better but all jokes aside, golf is the most relaxing thing I do on my weekends. Even if I suck, I laugh my ass off and have a great time swinging and missing that stupid little white ball.

I'm an ok golfer (shoot in the 90s), but last year I totally stopped caring about my swing mechanics and just started enjoying being outside and away from work. End result: my handicap dropped 2 strokes. :001_tongu

I'd imagine asking this is akin to asking on an NRA forum does anyone here own guns?:lol:
