too bad they scored - ruined an otherwise totally hapless performance.

A open letter to Jerry Reese:

I believe that we are only two moves away from fielding a competitive team next year. First, just cut the entire team. Second, fire the entire coaching staff. Easy enough.

Anything would be better than what we have now.

I remember when the Giants beat Dallas 33-31 in Week 2. They did not give up & were able to come back & beat them. They did not quit and won this game on heart. It looked like the same Super Bowl champ team out there finding & wanting a way to win.
Unfortunately they lost that spark along the way. Eli had a great individual season despite the team record.

The good news is I believe they will be back next season stronger then ever through with a bit of tweaking. :thumbup1:

I was shocked by that performance. I figured the Giants to be among the best teams in the league at the beginning of the year. I still don't know how they feel apart like they did:confused1

Some things I learned about the Giants this year:

Bill Sheridan is not Steve Spagnulo. The defense didn't play with the same intensity as in the past and they weren't fooling or intimidating opponents.
Special teams gave up big plays and didn't make enough.
Plaxico Burress may be arrogant and dumb as a post but they couldn't replace him on the field.
Without a playmaker in the passing game defenses could concentrate on stopping the run.
Eli Manning has a way to go before he can be mentioned in the same breath as his brother.

Another Giants fan here..

Now you never want your team to lose....but, it can have benefits. This was a meaningless game anyway, but to lose like this can bring about positive changes. Better draft position being one. Also, it should ensure that Tom Coughlin won't be able to keep his buddies around (Sheridan and hopefully Gilbride.)

Injuries and bad coaches or not, the players quit this year. Especially Osi. How many times can he cry about the coaches. Guess what, you're making millions of dollars, you don't have to be best friends w/ your DC, but at least make an effort on the field. Players like him, talented or not, set a bad example for the rest of the team.

Lastly, the passing game did better than I expected this year. I think a lot of the decline of the running game was due to the OL finally starting to break down. They had a lot of good years, but it's time to start revamping. They couldn't get any push all year. Add on injuries and the running game is going nowhere.

Finally, I don't know how you go about doing this by next year, but the entire defense needs to be gutted and rebuilt. Terrible secondary, maybe the worst LB core in the league, and underachieving defensive line.

Here's looking forward to a positive offseason and draft.

I agree with a lot of what you said, especially about the offense. I think you were too harsh on the defensive personnel. I think there issues where about scheme and attitude rather than personnel. I was really hoping for the Giants to do well this year, but they definitely quit on the seaason.

I was so hoping that the Vikes would give a payback to the Giants for the 41-0 donut they gave us in 2001. I do thank the Giants though for giving us a much needed boost. Hopefully this will help throughout the playoffs.

The quote of the day regarding my beloved Giants was delivered by Michael Strahan who said that the Giants Defense "couldn't cover a sleeping baby with a blanket."
Gilbride and Sheridan really have got to go.
That would be the first move in the right direction to start training camp this year.
Everything else that may or may not be wrong with the team is going to be debated ad nauseum.
You guys enjoy yourselves with that.
