I began my traditional wet shaving endeavors (5-6 years ago) using a straight razor. Used one for 3 years, pretty much exclusively. Well, it had lost its novelty a bit, and I began waking up pretty early for work, so I abandoned it for a DE (which I love using and get great results). One of my new years resolutions was to begin using a str8 more... so I figured tonight was as good as any to begin. I hadn't used, or honed a razor in over a year. So, I took out the first str8 razor I have ever used, took out my hones, and went to work. Muscle memory was still there with the hone and the strop, I got a pretty good edge on the blade.

The shave, itself, was really nice! No nicks, about 90+% of what I would get with a DE, and again, the muscle memory was there. This would definitely be classified a DFS, and is BBS for the majority of my face. So, I'm pretty stoked that my re-entry into using a str8 was as painless as it was. I figured some nicks, some awkwardness, etc. but for the most part, I didn't have to deal with any of that.

Happy new year!

Welcome back. The novelty has worn off for me a bit too, but I certainly enjoy it, and don't intend to switch anytime soon.

I think it will be one hell of a long time before the novelty wears off for me!

Welcome back, Drew.

Well - looks like a ride is in order this spring then!!
We'll meet someplace for a spin.
I'm in Lake Villa, about 10 minutes from the Wisconsin border, pretty close to Gurnee Mills mall actually.
