View Full Version : Anything new shave like a Gillette Tech?
I get the best shaves from the fat-handled Gillette Tech. I've tried everything I could think of from Merkur as well as other vintage Gillettes, and nothing compares for me. The fat Tech is my number one.
Is there anything out there that gives a similar, mild shave like the Tech? I wouldn't mind having something brand new that works as well.
My quest for a NOS fat-handled Tech goes on as well...

the fat handled Tech is also my main go to razor. as for other razors that shave the same, I can't really say as I mostly have Techs in my collection. I have a Merkur 33c and that's about the closest razor I have that shaves like a Tech (but slightly more aggressive).
ebay frequently has mint fat handled Techs for sale...can't say i've seen any NOS Techs aside from the ball-handle Techs. I scored 3 gold fat handled Techs that were in sterling condition, although the boxes were pretty beat up.

Some people like the Feather Portable (http://badgerandblade.com/vb/showthread.php?t=116127). And they certainly look nice.

I have a Feather portable. They are a bit shorter than a super speed and slightly more aggressive. I use mine for travel along with a Muehl travel brush. I like it, but I would like it better if it were the same size as a super speed.
To me, the fat handled Tech is easier to shave with, and less aggressive than all of the TTO Gillette's that I have tried.
The closest thing to a Tech for me is my Merkur HD.
Anything that is more aggressive than a Super-Speed or a Murkur HD would eat me alive, i'm afraid.
A Gillette Fatboy or Slim on about 2, or a Progress on 1.5 works okay, but something about the angle is off, to where I get nicks easier.
