We had dinner tonight at Trumanto's (http://www.opentable.com/rest_profile.aspx?rid=7518) which is a restaurant created by the famous chef Rick Trumanto. I have to say the 40 oz. ribeye for two was without a doubt the best steak I've ever eaten and I've eaten a lot of good steak. Serious melt in your mouth, walk a mile in the snow on my knees kind of flavor. I know everyone has their own favorite steak house, which may be better than this but if you're ever in this neck of the woods you need to check it out. It's not cheap but completely worth it.

A good steak is truly one of the great joys of life. My wife is a serious meatasaurus and always goes for the steak when it looks promising. The best we've ever had in a restaurant was at the Bull & Bear in the Waldorf Astoria in NYC.

Well I like steak and I've eaten a few in the USA and always enloyed New York silverside as being perhaps the closest to the meat we buy in the UK. But you have some great steak and great steak houses.

In the UK, meat is ofcourse grass fed and tastes a little different. Air dryed Arberdeen angus, sirloin cut is something you should look out for if you like a great steak.

If you ever go to Argentina, they love their meat and serve nice juicy big steaks with good wine. Mind you in Italy a Florentine steak is very special and in Japan Kobe steak is a bit special as well.

I'm glad I'm not a vegetarian.

I limit myself to 10oz of steak. I would eat the whole thing if it was in front of me.

We have a close good friend that's a leaf eater. I just don't get it. She doesn't seem much healthier than I am and she's great but a real pain to invite to a barbecue.

I have a friend like this. I have found brushing a large portobello mushroom with olive oil and balsamic vinegar and some salt and pepper makes a nice steak substitute. About 2 minutes a side. Then I don't feel so bad eating my 20 oz ribeye in front of her!

It comes out so nicely that I have my other guests asking for the mushroom. More meat for me!

I dont go out for steak, having working in a packing house i know the grades and cuts very well so i am usally unhappy when they say that the steak is this grade and cut when it isnt, funky sauces and spices are becomming the norm. My fave cut is a porter house cooked on the rare side of mid rare.

I can't help but be partial to Peter Luger's in Williamsburg, NY, if for no other reason than because, unless I'm grilling it myself, I always prefer porterhouse to ribeye.

I'll have to check out Trumanto's if I'm ever out your way.

Enjoy!

Hreafn, what's the difference between a porter house and a t-bone? Is the porter house cut closer to the loin, and the t-bone closer to the sirloin, or they two names for the same cut?

Porterhouse=more tenderloin

I believe neither contain sirloin, rather short loin, which is a better cut. Of course, correct me if I am wrong.

A porterhouse and t-bone are one and the same: a sirloin on one side of the bone, filet on the other.

I'm pretty sure that it's a strip steak (New York) on one side and a tenderloin filet on the other, but I wasn't sure of the difference between porterhouse/t-bone.

They both have a filet and a New York. The difference is where on the piece of meat the steak is cut from. A Porterhouse has a bigger filet on it.

You can make a nice Portobello burger too. After grilling, put it on a bun with lettuce, tomato, and a thick slice of grilled mild onion.

I have a friend (great guy) who's wife (pushy :cursing:) is a leaf eater.

We had our squadron Christmas party Tuesday night. One of the other wives was wearing a fur coat and this lady had the nerve to get in her face and tell her she was a murderer. That's how it started. Then we sit down to eat (Turkey) and we had to listen to her go on and on about how the Turkey's are tortured and we should all be ashamed. She finally shut up when I told her the only thing I was ashamed of was the fact that they served us Turkey instead of Veal! :001_tt2:

I'm a firm believe in "to each his own" and I never start any argument with Veggiesuarus' about why we should or shouldn't eat meat. But she's a disaster.

She's about 5'6" tall and weighs about 90lbs and looks like a total meth addict. Can you say lack of protein. Some people, geez.

We had a waitress who would constantly tell us that the meat we had in the coolers was disgusting to her because she was a vegan. My impression was that she probably thought she was better than others because of her moral standards. I finally told her to shut up and serve it because that is what is paying her bills. She only stuck around for several months.

Why did God give us fire and sharp rocks if we are not supposed to eat meat?

Steak. So easy to prepare, but also easy to ruin if done wrong. A great steak is something to treasure.

Honestly I think leaf eaters are unhealthy and do not have the protein intake necessary to maintain good muscle mass. I'm not a nutritionist but from everything I've ever read we were built to eat meat and vegetables. Certainly not the over processed crap most people live on. However I don't feel the need to constantly tell them about it.

While we're at it I don't like face piercing, spandex on the wrong people, tattoos on the neck, people that try to convert me to their religion, rude people of any kind and the list goes on and on but I'm also a believer in "to each his own". Right up until you try to push it on me. Then we have a problem.

I always say: Why did God give us incisors if we aren't supposed to eat meat. As far as vegetarianism is concerned there are those who do it well and make it work for them (but they have to get protein from somewhere) so if thats for them they can have it. However, most who are high and mighty about it don't know all they think they do and often make Kate Moss look grossly overweight.

I'll take my steak!
