Great show, and if they stay true to history seasons 2 and 3 will be much better than season 1. All the best stuff happened after Julius Caeser died. I'm glad you posted this. It looks like the season 2 premier is tonight, I had completely forgot.

I'll ditto that on the 3 CSI's, Tony. I'm a big fan. In fact, the original CSI (Vegas) is reportedly THE most watched show on TV.

#1 for me is Seinfeld.
Speaking of HBO series', any "Oz" fans? When I got On Demand, I got into it pretty deep.
House, hands down. NOW we can lock the thread.
FYI, last year CSI (Vegas) was battling with Grey's Anatomy for the top spot on the ratings.

"Rome". Anybody else a rabid fan of this show?
No; but I used to enjoy listening to the Jim Rome Show on radio. As far as TV is concerned, I enjoy "This Old House" and "Chef" (on PBS), and "House", "Gray's Anatomy", "Numbers", and pretty-much any NFL or MLB game broadcast on network TV (ain't got no cable or satellite). WRT TV sports: if I haven't worked-out that day, I don't watch sports... ya gotta earn the right to watch it.

Sopranos - Best show on television, best show ever, period. No other possible choices. "What? You gotta problem wit that?" :001_tt2:
Followed by the Simpsons. Unfortunately the writing has really started to run downhill.
I never could stand CSI, I'd have to rank that up there as one of the absolute worst shows I have ever seen. The only version that doesn't make me want to freak out like the little German kid from another thread is the Miami one, but if it's the origninal I'm smashing the TV.

Not the only one! I'm looking forward to the Mythbusters Pirate Special tomarrow, though the commercial confused me on one point. One of the things they are alledgedly going to test is if an eyepatch improves your vision... I always thought pirates wore eye patches because they had had their eye damaged during a battle. Anyway, I have my DVR setup to record that and DirtyJobs tonight.
My favorite shows though are either NCIS or Numbers with Criminal Minds coming in third.

House - the thread should have been locked earlier. I am hooked on Top Chef too. House is a seriously good show though. Can't get into 24 though I watched the first season - same with Lost. Don't have HBO or any pay channels period so I have never seen Sopranos, Deadwood or any of them and I figured watching any of the clean versions would be a waste of my time. Wish I had time to watch the season releases on DVD though...

I am a comedy guy so I like NBC line up this year.
My name is earl, scrubs, The office.
All time I love seinfeld, happy days until Ron Howard left, MASH, and the first 2 seasons of Mork and Mindy. I don't think I laughed as hard ever, as I did as a High School kid watching those 2 seasons of M and M.
I love this old house and any fix it up show.
Used to like ER, but with dramas like that, it seems like they have to try to "crank it up" each year and it becomes less believable.

Top Gear is excellent - so politically incorrect! The Hamster lives near my daughter and we've run into him (not literally) at a local large camping shop once or twice
Glad he's on the mend after that 300mph+ crash!
Also I quite enjoyed the Dr Who spinoff series Torchwood that finished recently. Mostly filmed in my old home town of Cardiff. Dr Who it most definitely was not! That Eve Myles is rather nice!
It seems to have started an new craze too. I was back in Cardiff over Christmas and I went down the the Bay and was amazed at the tourists trying to find the invisible elevator paving slabs outside the Millenium Centre! Lots of photo opportunities there.

Anyone watched Rome last night?
There was a shaving scene. Pullo was shaving Vorenus with a wide blade and what I assume was olive oil. I wish I could've taken a closer look at that blade.
It wasn't just a knife, it seemed like a tool specifically made for shaving. I wonder how authentic it was. Interesting stuff.

Nope; but back when I had cable-TV, it got funnier and funnier each year, as he'd try and shoehorn himself into those progressively smaller cars! LOL
All told, I'm a sucker for erudite Brits and their diction. And wasn't there a Brit show about two old ladies (one who passed-on, a few years ago), who cooked-up a storm, and rode around on a motorcycle with sidecar?

I immediately focused on this scene, too -- unfortunately, it was too quick to get a really good look. They seem to go out of their way to be accurate on that show, and to give a good sense of Roman life, so I'm guessing it was a replica of an actual shaving tool.

According to JPVD Balsdon in "Life and Leisure in Ancient Rome"...there were professional barbers in Rome proper since atleast 300 B.C. Shaving became common when popularized by Scipio Aemilianus(grandson of Scipio Africanus) presumably after destroying Carthage. It fell out of favor when Hadrian grew whiskers in the second century A.D.
Out of 400 pages there's a single paragraph on shaving :thumbdown
EDIT: couple interesting links:
Tech Central article (http://www.techcentralstation.com/101105B.html) has more information.
This page (http://razorland55.free.fr/lune03.htm) has pictures of razors of various dates/shapes. Links are at the bottom of page. Might see one similar to what you saw in the show.

House without a doubt. A classic situation of a good guy you love to hate. He's either brilliant or you want to strangle him. I'm more of a movie person. I don't have much time to keep up on a series. Two and Half Men would get my second vote.

Law and Order: Criminal Intent--if I start watching it, I'm hooked for the hour, even if I've seen it before.
Mythbusters: I can't seem to change the channel when they are running a marathon.
Man vs Food: 12 dozen oysters in one sitting? I'm watching!
There are other shows I'll watch (including political, news, and sports shows), but these are the four that I find most compelling.

Mad Men is great . I love how back in their day everyone smoked .
Miami Vice reruns
Band of Brothers -
New series called Pacific coming to HBO in 2010 . From the same crew that did BOB , Tom Hanks and Spielberg . Pacific is based in...... wait for it ........ in the Pacific theater of operations during WW II . Should be another killer show . HBO has a trailer up .
Entourage - was excellent but tapered off . Then season five it fired up again . Kind of stale when they don't have any money . And some how they still live like kings and are chillin' in Mexico driving Austin Martin's that got repoed , LOL . ARI is the freakin bomb no doubt . Ari and Lloyd make the show .:lol::lol: Ari said "you so much as eye f_ ck another agent in this building and I will deport you naked to the Taliban":lol:
24 is kickin but getting rather stale . Here jack doesn't officially work for anyone . CTU was disolved which ruined the show . Now they have to play it renegade style . Just waaaaay to far fetched . It was semi-plausable when CTU was around .
Grey's is good .
CSI - all of them are a joke . I'd rather watch Mcgiver reruns .
Nip Tuck - nice show full of smokin' hotties .
Deadliest Catch - I like this one . The captain sits on the bridge sippin his hot coffee all warm and snug . The fisherman outside in the freezing rain and icy water . Captain gets 3 times more money than the fisherman .
American Chopper - really LAME now that Paul Sr. fired Vinnie . No respect for the man that helped put OCC on the freakin map . As we know Vinnie was part of it all from the start .

Ugh. It sickens me that the likes of CSI, NCIS, and Law and Order are on the air. Now L&O has decent scripts and acting, but it's still the same darn thing every week. All these shows are terrible. The fact that people watch these shows to the extent that there are spinoffs says a lot about how intellectually innept the United States has become.
That said, I'm partial to comedies. I watch Community, The Office, and Parks and Recreation every Thursday (when there are new episodes). I like Weeds, but it has drifted away from being great. Entourage is in the same boat, but got better last season. Eastbound and Down on HBO is awesome, but is only going to have one more season. True Blood is very good, but it seemed to jump the shark last season. Top Gear is great if you are a car guy. Extras was a fantastic show. Curb Your Enthusiasm is probably my favorite, though.

Californication, Treme, True Blood, and Law and Order SVU (I love me some Olivia)
Edit: even though they are re-runs i think Seinfeld is still one of the greats!!
Old
Hogans Heroes - Same thing every show but I don't care. Klink and Schultz are two of the best characters in tv history. It cracks me up.
MASH & Seinfeld - Tie (imo) for best show ever.
New
Community - About the only *new* show I'll watch. I think it's funny.
Various documentaries on TDC/TLC/History. I saw 2 or 3 episodes of "Underwater Universe" from the History channel and it was interesting.
Ancient Aliens - some interesting theories and interpretations.

For my money, among shows still running, Community is the tops. It's a different animal than, say, Mad Men, but I think they're on the same creative level. Hilariously funny but heartfelt at the same time, with well-formed characters and top-notch plotting and writing. Both truly outstanding works of art.
Including shows not still running, The Wire and Deadwood are unbeatable. I really can't choose between them; even if The Wire did get to wrap up its storylines on its own terms, Deadwood is just so good! Heh.
Fun little theory I saw somewhere on the internet: HBO's "big three" of the 2000s, taken together, form an epic about America: Deadwood chronicling its birth out of lawlessness and the spirit of community, The Sopranos detailing the beginning of the fall, and The Wire relating the fall itself and its consequences on individuals and the communities they live in. (Throw in Mad Men and you get a glimpse of the heights as well.)

Top Gear is easily my favorite, but may not count as best show on TV (at least for those here in the States) because I find I have to download the British version off the 'net to get the full effect. The re-aired BBC America versions just cut out way too much stuff to keep the show PC (and what fun is the show without all the un-PC stuff).
Mad Men - Love this show.
Walking Dead - Loved season 1 and looks to have enough promise that I'll include it in my favorites.
South Park - Yes, I know it's been on air for what seems like forever, but its lampooning of current events continues to keep the show fresh for me and in my favorites. Charlie Sheen, Qaddafi, more Lindsay Lohan... Season 15 is practically writing itself in the headlines.
