Is it just me?--- been using Merkur DE blades--- good/great

Just finished shaving with a new Feather DE blade-- whatta difference!-- felt like no blade at all in the razor--

Are they that good?

Yes they are, very smooth and forgiving.

I've only heard mediocre things about merkur blades, stepping up to a feather was probably a welcome change. Glad you found the blade you like, keep experitmenting though!

In my experience, compared to a Murker blade even a rusty pen knife would give an awesome shave. But your right the Feathers are smoooth.

My first go with a Feather tore me up. I'm waiting for my technique to improve a bit more and then I'm going for round two.

I used Feathers for several months and still like them. I am currently using
Crystal Israeli/Super Platinum blades. I think I am getting a safer shave with the Crystals. The Feathers felt like they were so thin on the edge that they had problems with places where there was long very coarse hair. They seemed to sort of get bogged down and occasionally give me a nick if I was not careful.

I'm sure the Feathers will get rotated in my Deluxe Bull Mastiff (New Long Tooth) when it gets here.

Huge fan of the Feathers! I'm not sure why the Merkur blades get such a bad rap though - my guess it's because the blade that comes free with the Merkur razors suck - probably because its just wrapped in paper and gets thrown around in the box. I had a bad experience with the blade that came with the razor, but recently pulled one out of a brand new box and had a great shave, and have had good results since (not as good as the Feathers for sure, but not bad either!)

Not sure I understand it, but perhaps its technique...but when I started this madness the more aggressive razors with Feathers did the trick. Now they seem to take off too much and irritate. So I'm finding milder razors with Derby's are better now. Glad I have a sufficient stash of different razors and blades so I can change combinations as necessary!! :biggrin1: Gotta keep buying razors since I don't know how things will morph next and I might need a different style!

Feather blades are highly regarded here at B&B.. I am a huge fan of these and the Super Iridiums

haha how weird is that. I'm a newbie who spent too much money on my "real shaving" set up and was so, so pissed off with the results.

Ordered a sample pack of blades. One pack of which was feather...and fuck me sideways, what a difference :w00t:

Not as close as a fusion, but from what i've read it's never going to be, because it doesn't "get into the skin". Had about 3 days growth and 2 passes was good enough to for my office job and not look like a tramp

PS: I know now that i've typed this it will happen tomorrow:001_rolle but i'm yet to cut myself with a DE..so far i've used the Israel blades, and feather's and even when i go "fast" and just use it as if it were a cartridge i've not cut myself....my question is is there a specific area people cut themselves with,
when using a DE. People say they don't cut into the skin like a cartridge so in that sense you're more likely to bleed after a cartridge shave

Not sure why the Merkur gets such a bad rap either, I've found them to work quite well in a wide variety of razors. Feathers, while my favorite in a Tech (very smooth and sharp), seem to behave differently in other razor platforms (perhaps it is still technique, but I seem to get a more comfortable shave with other blades in certain razors).

Still lots of combos for me to try though (it's nearly endless), but I do love the Feather in a Tech (running a Feather right now, and have tried it this week in a Bulldog, a NEW DeLuxe, and a Ranger Tech).

Tomorrow, a '41 Milord (same as the Ranger Tech, but gold). Or maybe a Toggle.

I have found Feathers to be very dependent on the razor. For me, they are awful in a Tech. But in a 50s Superspeed, they are amazing.
