I may be mistaken, but it appears that there is not a thread here in the Mess Hall dedicated entirely to bacon - the Official Animal Product Not Contained in a Shaving Soap of B&B.* This strikes me as wildly inappropriate, so please proceed to discuss your likes and dislikes (hypothetically) when it comes to bacon.

*This "official" designation is unofficial.

I didn't do a search to link it in here, but I see bacon just about everywhere I go on this forum. Bacon.... Yummmmmmmmm!

I love me some bacon! This weekend I did jalapenos stuffed with sausage, sauted celery and onions, cream cheese and spices wrapped in bacon and then smoked on the Big Green Egg. Nothing like sausage wrapped in bacon. :a44:

Best bacon ever - Peter Luger's steak house

It is good but looks and tastes more like a fatty, grilled ham steak.

I gotta put my plug in for Theilens bacon in Pierz, MN. Not only is it amazingly inexpensive $3.99/lb it's darn good and even Martha Stewart and the NYT agree

Well, I honestly thought that given all the bacon craziness around here, there should be a thread about the actual food here in the Mess Hall. And despite my various jokes in the thread, I'm actually interested in what kind of bacon people like and how they like to cook it.

The short answer to your question is probably "no," but what can it hurt?

I keep thinking it would be cool to make my own Bacon. Got to figure out where I can get my hands on a unprocessed pork belly in the local area.

I might start with trying to make some peameal bacon. Sounds like a good Christmas time project.

I found a particularly good bacon from a butcher at Cygnet, Tasmania (.au) - free range pork, natural wood smoke. The texture of the bacon out of the pack is pretty much the same as a (thinly sliced) raw pork chop, instead of like ham. It's not insanely salty or fatty either, and tastes fantastic on toast with a couple of eggs.

My hope is that one day they discover that bacon is actually good for you, and that it should be eaten at least once a day. I just hope that it happens in my lifetime.

Blue & Gold Bacon, sold by the local boyscouts in this area. Its only available for a short time of the year. Bacon = happiness. To quote Ed O'neal in the movie "Dutch" "Nothing burps better than bacon!"

Funny you should say that. I've just started off my first 1.5 kilo of home cured bacon as an experiment.

Gone for a simple dry cure streaky from belly pork as it's cheap if it all goes pear shaped!

Hoping for some decent bacon butties for Christmas!

Please please don't talk about proper English bacon. That's one of the (few) things I miss from Blighty. I can't get decent bacon here in NL, in fact I struggle to get rubbish bacon, and never could get it in California either (that stuff they call bacon over there is okay, but it's just not *bacon*, no matter how hard they argue).

Bacon Explosion!

A friend showed me this and I think for properity's sake I am going to add it to this thread

http://www.bbqaddicts.com/blog/recipes/bacon-explosion/

Any dish that starts off as a bacon weave just has to be amazing. I think you get a side of triple bypass and a large colon blow with this monster of a bacon roll. It can also be bought and shipped right to your door.

That (Bacon roll) is stunning! Can you imagine an inch thick slice of that served in a warm biscuit (scone for the Brits) with some real butter. Oh!

I don't know JPM... armadillo eggs are kinda small... maybe a Chili Relleno with bacon.

I fixed breakfast for my wife yesterday, bacon, eggs, and toast. I got out the cast iron skillet to fix the bacon and got yelled at. "Don't us that, just put it in the microwave. It gets grese all ove the stove top." Then she picks up MY skillet and puts it back in the drawer! You can't propperly cook bacon int microwave! It tastes like cardboard!!! Oh well, I wasn't fixing it for me anyway.
