Jumped into the world of single blade shaving tonight. It didn't go as well as I hoped, but I'm looking forward to better skills.
I switched from using the 5 blade Gillette fusion. I was able to shave in the shower without a mirror using against the grain passes in under 10 minutes for a pretty smooth shave.
I really enjoyed the process tonight, but ended up with some pretty solid nicks on the chin and adam's apple.
I purchased a Parker 96r which came with Shark blades, an Omega Stripey badger brush, and Co. Conk lime soap. I have some Taylor of Bay St. shaving cream coming in the next day or two. Ordered everything off Amazon.
I showered first, lathered then went at it for a three pass shave. On the third pass, I tried to go across the grain which irritated m skin. I was in a bit of rush to get to a meeting. Going to give the face a day to recover then try again when I have more time.
Wish I would've found this forum earlier...

You did nicely. Perhaps wait a while with the ATG. Look at Mantic videos and shave. :thumbup1:

Welcome to B&B fella, you have just taken the lid off a big box of surprises! Remember the rules NO pressure and take YOUR time. I have recently switched to night time shaving. This gives me even more time to do it right. Best of luck.

I must have a mirror to shave! How else do you know where you shaved and where you didn't?!
Enjoy your time in DE land!

Maybe i am confused are you saying you shaved in the shower with the fusion or your parker? I used a fusion also and shaved in the shower with a 2 pass atg and got a pretty good shave. The reason i switched to a DE was twofold one Gillette is NUTS....:w00t: with the price of the fusion blades and even though i am able to purchase them regardless of the price i felt like a fool paying those prices....Second the shaves are really so much closer this way. But a word of caution be careful if your DE shaving in the shower for one slip and off goes your baby maker...:biggrin1:

I've been DE shaving for about six months and my face still screams obscenities at me if I go ATG. You might want to wait a bit for that part of it...
Welcome!

Welcome!
Mine does too!! I tried it recently, just to see if it was a technique related issue, and got a huge batch of irritation as a result. I am at about the 6 month mark as well. :thumbup1:

I was shaving in shower with the fusion. I switched because I couldn't stand throwing my $$ to Gillette. Thanks for all the great responses and encouragement so far.
