trim first?

so i havent shaved in about 2 months, do i need to trim my beard, for example, with an electric razor before i attempt my first wet shave? or is it ok to do it with fairly long hairs?
is it easier or harder with a beard vs stubble?

I never went 2 months without shaving but I would trim a bit otherwise you will be rinsing the razor all the time... Unless you're using a straight razor!

yes. this will be my first shave with a straight razor.
it is a DOVO DV.101581. or at least thats what the invoice says. sorry for my ignorance on that one.
it has been professionally honed and so should be ready to go.

You can do it with a safety razor too. I've done it with a months worth of growth. You just need to use extremely short strokes and be patient. Now that said it's easier to do if you trim first or use a straight instead.

If you've got some hair clippers handy then i'd give it a trim before getting stuck into it, it'll make the beard alot more manageable.

Trim is nice before a shave, but it's not absolutely necessary.
