Is there a way to ignore posts from specific forums when I do a search for new messages? Specifically, I don't want to see posts from the "The Barber Shop," which I find annoying and wayyyyy off topic (an occassional post? Fine. But a half-dozen new discussions or more per day?!?). I looked at my User CP and I don't see anything obvious. I thought I might be able to set my default Advanced Search menu to ignore that forum but apparently I can't use a blank field for keywords. I tried "*" but I got the error "The search term you specified (*) is under the minimum word length (4) and therefore will not be found. Please make this term longer. If this term contains a wildcard, please make this term more specific." Any help out there?

Mark,
Funny you should mention that.... we've noticed a lot of threads have been veering off topic (in the shaving related forums) and as a mod team will be taking greater efforts to keep threads on topic (within the confines of the general shaving discussion) as well as attempt to cut down on foul language/inappropriate topics.

Mark,

Aside from what Joel mentioned (which the moderators are presently discussing), what you can do is before clicking on the "New Posts" link, go to the main forum listing here (http://www.badgerandblade.com/vb/index.php). Then find the icon to the left of the Barber Shop link that looks like this:

http://www.badgerandblade.com/vb/images/statusicon/forum_new.gif

Double-click that icon, and it will mark all the posts in that forum as read. That should stop them from showing up in the New Post search.

Excellent tip Nick! I had been going into forums and using the mark all read. This is much easier!

That works reasonably well for me. Thanks, Nick!
