Who the heck buys a straight razor, then regrinds it into a knife? Apparently a past owner of this "fine razor". A shame to say the least.

straight to the point, mate.
It's of no use for shaving, doesn't serve well as a pocket knive... maybe you could cut tomatoes with it? But there are many good kitchen knives out there, so...
Too bad there are no fines for straight razor-rape :thumbdown

I don't think this was ever meant for shaving.

From the auction text:

On the side of the razor it is embossed CORN RAZOR.

These are used to remove calluses and corns (hyperkeratosis) from the feet. See for example the latest ones from Dovo and Merkur here (http://www.heimerdingercutlery.com/catalog/category.cfm?Category=473&CFID=7141622&CFTOKEN=281).

If you are tempted to shave with one you might consider disinfecting it first.

Howard hit it on the head. In the past, razors were available for removing corns from your feet. These razors were not for shaving.

Ah, I see said the blind man as he picked up a hammer and saw.

What looked like grind marks on the blade made me think otherwise. One of my past acquisitions was a Parker gypsy butterfly knife, that someone did that exact thing to (re-ground the blade, poorly I might add).....took weeks of handwork to get the blade almost right again.

That corn razor was bad indeed. I have one that looks just like a small straight but it obviously can't be used for shaving (unless you want to take several days and a tub of band aids over it). Having said that, I did see somewhere on the web a blow-by-blow description of how to turn a straight into a modelling knife. Now that's anal.
