Show us your first DE razor or if you are just DE shaving after a long hiatus show us the razor that reacquainted you with DE shaving.

As a teenager I believe I started with a Track Two or an Injector being over 40 years ago my memory is kinda hazy on that LOL.

I got this razor for a dollar it came with 5 Dorco Blades is made of solid plastic has no markings on it except for the numeral 3 on underside of the head.

Here we go. This is the one I started with about 12 years ago. I bought it at a flea market without any intention of using it, just because it looked pretty cool.

I found apacket of blades and temptation took its toll ....

1964 Gillette Slim adjustable I bought about four months ago in an antique store for $7. Just like the one of my dad's that I used in college. I thought I would just get that one DE, save money on cheaper blades, and be done...ha ha ! :001_rolle

Here ya go, Merkur 1906 Classic. Delivered from WCS on Sept. 1st this year. Then, I thought I'd pick up a "few" vintage Gillettes...

First DE was my father's 65 SS. A year or so ago I passed it down to one of my nephews.

My first DE was a disposable surgery prep razor. We had one laying around the house in a wrapper for a couple of years (my wife is a nurse and it just ended up in the house for some reason). One day I got bored and unwrapped the thing. I broke out my only can of noxema shave lather and gave it a whirl. I loved it!!! I started looking around for double edge razors after that at thrift stores and eventually found a neilite bakelite razor. I used that for a while, and ended up poking around more. The rest is history!

Here is my first DE, graciously PIFed to me by a member here: a Ball End Gillette Tech, a puck of VDH Deluxe, and some blades

I have since tried at least 15-20 other razors, but still come back to my Tech on my days. Techs rule!!

My first DE was, and still is because I am still using it, a Merkur 33C I bought off of the Bay about two months ago. Since I bought a Fat Boy, a Slim, a '40's style SS, and a Tech for my son. RAD has grabbed me and beating me down. Thank God I am in Iraq or my wife would kill me if she knew.

My first was/is a 1970s Schick injector (althought it's not technically a DE razor). My dad gave it to me just after I turned 14. I've had it for nearly 35 years, and I still shave with it now and then.

My first was a progress I with a knob I dyed blue. I sold it to Sluggo and he eventually sold himself...maybe as a precursor to his switch to electric.

The Progress was my first DE too.

How the heck did you get the little plastic knob dyed blue? I've been thinking about buying one of those metal knobs for it but just can't bear to part with $30 for such a small benefit. On the other hand, the blue handle on yours looks excellent.

Just got some rit fabric dye from the laundry aisle and soaked it in a shot glass with really hot water for ~30 minutes a time (re-mixing a new color mix each time) a few times until I got the color I wanted. I then let it sit in the glass over night to really get the color set in. Glad you like it.

My first DE would have been a Gillette of some kind that my Dad gave me around 1971 or 1972. I have an idea it was adjustable, which would make it what, a Slim? At the time it meant only slightly more to me than a new toothbrush or comb. Who knew? I moved on to cartridges.

My first when I returned was a Weishi, which didn't work out all that well. I mean to give it another try eventually, now that my technique is a bit better.

My first DE was a Gillette Tech ca. 1930's. Great shaver although I now prefer the weight of my fatboy. My first run in with a DE was my fathers when I was a kid, he had a Slim Adjustable, I remember pretending to shave with it without a blade! Neat thing about all 6 of my DE's is that they all belonged to family members (Dad, Grandfather, and Father-in-Law) except the Tech which came from a dear family friend.

I got really pissed at m3 cartridges because they're so expensive an dI started to notice that sometimes I'd get a pack of them that would give me razor burn no matter what I did. I had the idea to try a DE to see if it was an improvement and I found a battered ranger tech at an estate sale for $3 and gave it a whirl with some blades I bought at rite aid.

At first it wasn't much of an improvement, but I figured it out! The rest is history, and I'm still finding razors for about the price of a sandwich almost every weekend...

I purchased my first DE, a Feather Popular, from ntguys on ebay. But before it arrived, I got impatient and hit the local antique shop. There I scored a '62 Slim and a Razobrite Bath jar for $11. One more stop at the Dollar Store for some Dorcos and I promptly went home and had my first real shave. So technically the first DE I bought was not the first DE I shaved with. Talk about RAD setting in early!

1st DE was a Merkur 34c last July.

My first is this razor here. This exact one, I've held onto it through countless moves, girlfriends, and jobs. Bought it with my late brother's help at the Rexall while I was in high school. Don't really use it much because I like my Gillettes more nowadays, plus the handle seems long. Good shavers though, I have several now. I learned with my father's injector but I switched to DE in the late sixties, strictly brushless cream back then. Long strange trip.

My grandpa bought it new and I dragged it out of the medicine cabinet a few years after he passed away and have used it daily since.

My first razor was a Gillette Super Adjustable. I picked it up with the plastic container and a two pack of Platinum Plus blades. I gave it a shave with one of the blades (they still had oil on them, so no rust. It was amazingly good, and I was using Colgate canned foam. I then picked up a VDH boar brush and Deluxe soap at a Long's. After that I was hooked.

It is in the middle of this drawer pic below. Unfortunately my collection has since gotten far larger. Now I have stuff in the bathroom as well as some plastic bins under the bed!

My very first (around the time I came here) was a Tech; wasn't impressed, had it very briefly. Then got a Lady Gillette, which I now know was an ok shave (but seemed STUNNINGLY GOOD at the time). I consider that my first DE since it was really my first informed purchase. It's now been sold to a lady where I work who was complaining how high her Venus cartridges had gotten. I told her to try out the Gillette, with a new blade I'd included, and let me know. She came in the next day and handed me $20 and LAUGHED that her legs had not felt this smooth since she was a teenager (she's now in her 40s).

So my first actual DE led to my first DE convert.

Rainman, my 3 year old son got that exact thing for Christmas! I've hidden the can, and he now likes to lather up with one of my soaps every night when he takes a bath. Totally hilarious, but he takes great pride in "shaving".

BTW, my first DE was a 48-50 Milord with plenty of plate loss on the TTO doors - in a couple of places the brass is even worn. It clearly saw lots of action before I purchased it at an antique shop this summer.

My first DE was my grandfather's 1947 Aristocrat.

I ordered a 38c from Classic Shaving, and then I asked my Mom if her Dad (who had died six months earlier) had left an old razor. He did, and she sent it to me the next day. It arrived the same week as the Merkur. Sold the Merkur and kept the Aristocrat.

The Aristocrat was the first razor I ever shaved with - I sneaked into Grandad's bathroom and used it when he was out - I think I used a can of Old Spice Lime foam for my first ever shave!!!

I know I started out with DE, but I cannot remember what for the life of me.. I soon moved to Injector, and stayed until about 2 years ago when I bought a Merkur 34C HD.. The Merkur is probably all I ever needed, but the search is on for the perfect razor!

P.S.
I started with my Dad's Slim adjustable, but I can't remember what I bought for my first that was actually my own.

I started shaving in the early 1970s as a teenager living in London. At that time the Wilkinson sticky was the standard issue razor and my parents bought me one. Fortunately the sticky is about as mild as it gets, so technique is optional. I prefer a more aggressive razor, but still keep a sticky in my rotation.
