This site is a great resource and I'm about to stick my toe (chin?) into the wetshaving pool after using electrics and cartridges for 40+ years (currently Trac II). I've won a vintage Gillette or two on eBay, and got a blade sampler pack and a brush or two on the way from online sites. I live in a <100000 pop. small city and have no idea what mass-market retailers would carry some of the decent shaving products talked about here. The local drugstore has Omega bristle brushes, Williams soap and one or two flavors of C&E, but I would like to find a local source for other products like shave sticks and creams (Prorasso, Palmolive, others?). Ideas?

You can get CO Bigelow at Bath & Body Works which I understand is the same as Prorasso.

I am pretty new too and I have made a habit of checking out the selection of shaving items at every store I happen to be at to see what they have. Last night, I saw some Tree Hut Shaving cream at another grocery store in the area that I normally do not go to.

Thanks! I think we have a Bath & Body Works in the mall.

Walmart and Walgreen's should each carry VDH soap. See if you have any stores that sell organic products as they may carry a few shaving related items.

-VDH deluxe soap is available at many Wal-Marts for $1.50 per puck.
-The Real Shaving Company Shaving Cream is sold at Rite Aid for $5.
-Kiss My Face Moisture Shave is sold at natural foods stores, and the natural foods section of larger supermarkets. It costs around $6-$8 for a huge 11oz container.

Crabtree and Evelyn, and Art of Shaving might also be available if you live nearby a larger city. Avoid the hardware at AOS, since it is severely overpriced, but the AOS cream/ soap is very good.

Vitamin Cottage was a smaller place that actually has some selection of soaps.

Tom's of Maine shaving cream can still be found sometimes. Also Thayer's Witch Hazel. Health food stores are also good for quality hygiene care such as soaps, shampoos, and toothpastes. Walgreens usually has some good aftershaves such as Aqua Velva and AV Musk, Pinaud Clubman, and Pinaud Bay Rum. As mentioned above the Real Shaving Co can be found at Rite Aid. The ASB is excellent also.

Yes. Go to Bath and Body works today and get some "Proraso" exact same stuff, cooler looking tube (IMO), and no shipping! Instant gratification. Its great stuff. Its so easy to get a hold of, and affordable that it is one of those great present to tell people if they are wondering what to get you. So many of my family, when they want to get me a simple present, get me a tube of cream from here.

Went to Bath & Body Works today, and found C.O. Bigelow which is apparently the Prorasso under another brand.

Yes! I found the Kiss My Face brand at my regular grocery store, in the section I've never visited before.

When it comes to good, cheap shaving gear, we all live in a small town.:001_tongu

I was in LA recently, expecting to bag a razor and other goodies at those wonderful US prices I red on the Internerd. 1 Art of Shaving store in the whole city, and nothing like wonderful US prices.

That said, Proraso and other stuff is fairly readily available - even where I live.

Excellent!! By the way, despite what the instructions on the Kiss My Face may indicate, KMF lathers really well with a brush!! :w00t::thumbup1:
