I have been DE shaving for a while now and I keep finding myself drawn to a straight. It seems like a big investment to get started (compared to DE) so I am a little hesitant to take the plunge. I have thought about going the feather artist club route because I have no interest in spending the time to (or the time to learn to) hone, or I may take the plunge and go or a dovo and send it out for honing but I know the cost of this could add up depending on how often I need to hone the blade.
I have decided to go to a local reputable barber and get a straight shave to see if I like the process in general. Is there anything I should watch for to aide in my quest or any advice you can give me in general to help make my decision?

The cost of honing comes out to the cost of DE blades if my math is right...
But I'm using made up math so..... :whistling:
Bottom line is that straight shaving will save you in the long run, but the long run is about a year before you start to see the real savings.

 Straight or DE shaving would save us all money if we could manage to approach it like the typical disposable and canned goo shaver. Still it is not a big outlay to experiment with a few different soaps, after shaves, razors, etc. and get more enjoyment out of the shave. If only one were disciplined they could save some money.
Regarding the Feather AC, I have been using this style of razor for about 6 weeks. I do not have a well rounded opinion, but I do think it is a good way to learn basic techniques and help decide if you want to transition to traditional straights.

OK let's be honest. You will not save money switching to straights. If there is 1 person on this board who has, let them speak up.
