I see a lot of mention of antique stores w/regards to buying old razors. I was wondering what you look for in an antique store to tell you that they'd sell razors. I just remember as a kid that all the antique stores my parents went to was a bunch of furniture.
I'm intrigued.

Usually the kind with lots of cases of bric-a-brac. Antique malls with a lot of different vendors are good as well.

+1 - You can also ask the owner/proprietor if they have some.

It think its worth a shot just to see. Generally I seem to find razors in the military section here in PA.

I usually ask, I was at an antiques fair and I didn't see many razors, but when I started to ask the vendors if they had any straight razors I'd say about 70% of them did but they hadn't brought any of them with them. Might as well ask, doesn't cost anything.

I typically look for the cases. Almost always the safety razors will be there. The case might have general junk (except for the razors of course), or knives, or military paraphernalia. I've asked on occasion, but typically I just keep my eyes peeled for the cases.

+1. I usually look for the section with knives, trinkets and knickknacks - any area that looks like it might have small manly type stuff.

I was wandering an antique shop recently, and didn't see any razors.
I asked the attendant, and she pointed me to a Bakelite handled Schick Injector I had missed (that was sitting in a Gillette Superspeed case, and hence labeled as a Gillette), and around 10 Straights sitting on a top shelf of one of the displays.
It certainly pays to ask!!

Always ask, but always look around if they say "nope, no razors." in 1/3 of the shops I've visited, they're wrong and just forgot. In a place with vendors renting cases or booths, there's no point in asking at the front, you just gotta look.
