One of my razors, (The Commander, made in Germany, company unknown) which I bought from an antique store, has a broken scale at a rather crucial point: Right at the hinge. It's maintained for several shaves, but I'm not sure for how much longer. The unbroken scale has what seems to be fluorescent light damage.

I'm thinking about making some scales out of wood or some kind of black plastic if I can find that sort of thing. I also just bought a Dremel and I'm thinking that'll be the tool for a large portion of the job. Now I'm wondering what kind of wood and where to get it from. Any suggestions?

Thanks! Those both look like great places. I'll probably go to these websites for all kinds of things. I'd like some lucite scales. I think it could be interesting with the etching. Wood might be the best choice. Acrylic is expensive.
