As if there were any doubt...The Yankees will be retuning to the series. As it has been said...the road to the World Series leads through NYC. :P

So...How do you all find the matchup and who will win.

Ill predict Yankees in 6.

As much at I would like to see the Phillies Win, I am sure it will be the yankees again.

Im just so thrilled the Yankees are back in. And im so pissed im back in Texas right now. Im trying to justify the $1k plus or minus to fly up there for one game. I was at the home opener, so this would be so fitting.

The Yanks better score more runs or Philadelphia will win.

I'm afraid my hatred of the Yankees skews my views, but there are multiple reasons why I don't like them. For me, I get stuck on the mere number of Yankees/former Yankees that are in the Mitchell Report and all that we have heard about A-Roid. From a moral and ethical standpoint, I cannot support a team that has deemed it acceptable to cheat.

Also, last I checked, the Phillies won the World Series last year. They are an offensive juggernaut and have great pitching. I'm picking the NL.

Lee is 4-4 in 9 starts, with 8 HRs, a 5.00+ ERA and nearly .300 BA against him vs. the Yanks in his career...so I'm giving the big edge to CC in this matchup.

Lee's stuff has been positively filthy in the postseason, and the Phils have pretty much eaten CC for lunch. I still like the Phils in 6, but I have a feeling that this will go the distance and be a classic like we haven't seen in a decade or more.

Peter Gammons said it best: "The Phillies are the best AL team in the NL." For all the pitching the Yankees have, the Phillies are probably the best hitting team in baseball; they can really put up some numbers. Add that to Brad Lidge seeming to click at just the right time, Cliff Lee throwing some serious stuff in the postseason and Charlie Manuel being one of the best managers in the game, and I think the Phillies take it in six. It's going to be a good series.

This is a sport that just seems to go on forever. They get a break for Thanksgiving and Christmas and then before you know it... time for Spring training again. This creates baseball overload.

I'm going to say Yankees in 6. I think the Phillies are going to bring some serious offense and it should be a barn burner. Or at least as exciting as baseball can be.

I'm a Yankees fan so I'd like to say NY in 4 but I think 6 or 7 is far more reasonable.

Tough call! I'm going to go with the Yankees in 7. I doubt the Phillies are going to play as sloppy as the Angels did which leads me to believe this series has more potential to go more games.

Some of the big questions of the teams in my head:

Which Lidge is going to show up and how can he do against such hitters on such a big scale. I think going up against the Yankees might be a bit more pressure than the younger Tampa Bay Rays... It's going to be fun to watch.

AJ Burnett - Can he start good?

Can Arod continue his unbelievable hot streak.

And since today's news, "Who's your daddy" Pedro is pitching at Yankee stadium! That should be funny to hear again.

The Yankees in five, N.L. can't hang with A.L. pitching. Sabbathia is a rarity that came from The N.L. and had success, even he stunk at the beginning of the year. Think Matt Holliday was glad to be back in the N.L. after sucking it up in Oakland? Smoltz was a flop in the A.L., Looked like "Ole Smolze" when he went back.

Yanks vs. Phils hitting stats:

Home runs: 244 vs. 224
RBIs: 881 vs 788

Remove Matsui's stats since there is no DH in the National League and replace with a pitcher. Then you can start comparing.

Unlike Lee's performance last night, that was horrible. :001_unsur

======

Has there ever been a pitching performance like last night? I've never seen one. Catching balls behind his back, nonchalantly grabbing a pop fly... WOW!

Jeter was the only Yankee to get anything worth mentioning off of him. He brought Arod right back down to earth...

It isn't as simple as just removing Matsui's stats. Having a pitcher in the lineup changes everything. Now, I won't call a pitcher and automatic out, but odds are that most of the time, he would be out. How many more at bats does the entire team get if Matsui is playing instead of a pitcher? The whole order benefits dramatically because of it. I don't think there is any way to determine the actual difference that would be made, so confirming your original numbers with "adjusted" numbers does nothing because those aren't reliable numbers to begin with.

In another note, Cliff Lee is a stud. He started the year off slow, but man did he play great in the second half and in the playoffs so far. It's a huge blow to the Yankees to lose home field advantage and a start by CC. There are still some games to be played, but clearly Philly has the advantage now.

The double steal by Damon put Lidge in a tough spot- throw the slider and risk a past ball or throw the heat. That double steal was the darnedest thing I have seen in quite some time.

That was seriously heads up by Damon. He gambled and won considering the ball was in hand when he took off. It was the game changing move IMO.

That was some heads up base running. However, the announcers put too much into that play taking away Lidges slider. It isn't so wild that a good catcher can't stop it. I'm willing to bet the pitching coach went out there to make sure Lidge didn't change up his plan for Rodriguez.

Lidge seemed to fall back to his 2007 ways.. two strikes, two outs - and he couldn't put it away. I saw that all too often when he was an Astro the last year he was here - I think his head got in his way...

MoJoe
11-02-2009, 01:09 PM
Damon's heads up running was huge. But his ability to stay alive during his at bat was the key to it all. He seemed to have 2 strikes forever and kept fouling off the ball. He just kept cool and kept at it and put the pressure on Lidge to make a mistake which he ultimately did. Remakable job by Damon.
