at the heb on 620 and anderson mill i found some toms of main mint and another sent i forget, the blades there are personna, the soaps are vdh glycerin and select, the vdh bore brush with the green handle. the cvs on 620 and el salido has williams, clubman, the vdh delux brush or whatever they call the one with the silverish handle. i dont remember the brand of the blades but the package says cvs and they want $5 for 10 so i wont be trying them. the same with the blades at wallgreens, though the wallgreens on anderson mill and 620 has pinuad bay rum. it has the vdh glycerin and select as well. the walmart on lakecreek and 620 has vdh delux. pipeworld on anderson lane by the alamo draft house has col. conk soaps, a few razors, casswell massey products. theres a building on lamar that everything from amazingshaving.com gets shipped from. i went to buy a razor in person and when i called they said they were "pick up only" i havent tried to pick anything up there but thats where their store front is, or so the person on the phone claimed. bath and body works in lakeline has co bigelow. and so far thats all ive found. sorry if its rambled i was typing as i thought of them. oh yea whole foods on 360 by gateway has a lot of products i remember burts bees, kmf and toms of main though its cheaper at heb, and alot of other stuff, and central market on lamar has a lot as well but i havent been there in forever so im not going to bs anybody.

Gardens (http://www.gardens-austin.com/) over on 35th st (directly east of MoPac on the north side of the street) carries several items from the Santa Maria Novella line. When I was there last, they had around 10 fragrances, as well as some of their skin care line. Unfortunately, they don't carry any of their shaving products. :frown:
Gardens is a small place with a very eclectic and constantly changing inventory. They carry everything from Botot toothpaste to Puerh tea to traditional calligraphy materials. They carry some Savon de Marseilles soaps, as well as several other European boutique soaps and skin care products. The proprietors spend much of their time traveling the globe, and if they find a product they like (say, a particular soap from a small soapmaker in Provence, some Murano glassware, or cowhide chairs from Argentina) they'll buy up whatever they can. It's nice because you might find an amazing product you've never seen before, but the downside is when it's gone, it's gone. A great place to find gifts, and definitely worth checking out!

Last time I was in their shop, they did not have samples but had a few testers. I would call and make sure they have Sandalo in stock.

A new place opened in Lakeway, its called Finley's barber shop. They do straight razor shaves. Its supposed to be a place just for men, kind of an old time barber shop.
So, who is going to take one for the team and go get a shave? Its $20 according to the web site.

Heroes & Legacies no longer carries Truefitt & Hill, only Art of Shaving, and I didn't care for any of AOS' scents.
They said they have been getting a lot of requests for T&H though and may start carrying Almond and 1805 again. I used some 1805 this morning, smells pretty good. Didn't care for the almond.

I went to Finley's today and got a hair cut. It is a very nice place, they really try make if feel like a place for men to hang out. The offer you a beer, wine, cup of coffee when you come in, all complementary. The hair cut includes, washing and conditioning your hair, face massage with hot towel, hot towel on neck and a pretty nice neck rub. Then they cut your hair, blow dry and style, hair gel if you want it. They ask if you want your eyebrows trimmed. Shaving the neck, and around the ears with a disposable straight, they do use Truefitt and Hill shaving products. After the neck shave and another hot towel to remove the cream and hair, T&H 1805 ASB was applied to my neck, you can also try all of the EDT's.
For $25 I was pretty happy with it. I will go back again.
Straight razor shave is $20. Pretty tempting. They sell all the T&H shaving products to include brushes and razors, creams, soaps, ASBs and EDT.
Some of the things that they do differently from other places I have been to.
You face the center of the room instead of staring at yourself in the mirror. I liked it quite a bit.
They have several flat screens with sports and news playing.
They also have a lounge in the back where you can wait for your barber its got one big flat screen, lots of magazines, Wall Street Journal. No women's magazines.
Eric cut my hair, he went to barber school 24 years ago and he is a third generation barber. Their was a female barber in their as well, I didn't catch her name. She is also a third generation barber.
On a weekday they have 6 people working there but only 3 are barbers and can do straight razor shaves.
The 1805 EDT I sampled smelled very nice, at first. It quickly turned in to a very sweet smelling almost womanly perfume. My wife smelled it and she was like  I'm glad I resisted the temptation to buy it.

Thank you.
I don't know if they will use your razor or not. I asked about what kind of straights they use and Eric told me that health regulations mandate that they use disposable blades.
Let us know how it goes. I hope you can get away soon!

I stopped in on my way home for a haircut. Eric gave me a shampoo, then a relaxing hot towel treatment. After a quick #2 clipper cut, he did a hot lather straight-razor shave on my sideburns, ears and neck then finished the shaved areas with some Truefitt & Hill 1805 aftershave.
They have T&H cologne samplers out on the counter plus razors, brushes, creams and aftershaves in locked case. I bought a T&H Trafalgar aftershave, and after I mentioned that the Grafton aftershave in my sample pack from T&H was empty, they gave me a sample of Grafton shaving cream & aftershave.
Definitely worth a visit and I'll be going back.

Hey folks, just checking for an update. Im being sent to Austin for a massivly screwed up project and will be there for a month. Im going to be in the 183 and mopac area. You are going to be very near Hero's and Legacies, they sell pretty much the whole AOS line. They also carry Dovo straights and a limited Truefitt and Hill selection.
Depending on how far you are willing to drive you could head out to Lakeway and visit Finely's barbershop. They carry pretty much all of the T&H line.
If you can get downtown you can visit Enchante. He carries all kinds of stuff.

I do miss Austin. I miss Chuy's, and Ciscos, and the Flight Path coffee shop. I haven't been back in 11 years. Had some really bad relationships there. Heck, I had really bad realationships all over Texas.
Then I moved to Oregon, met a wonderful California (Northern California, Santa Rosa) girl, and my life changed for the better. If I ever go back there, I'll feel like a conquering hero.
There are so many good drives in Austin too. What an amazing place. I've heard that they have more PhD's working at convenience stores there than any other city! :w00t:

Not to be repetative but if you need Red IPs, Feathers, or Derby Extras, Enchante carries them all.
I think it should be every shavenerds responsibility to talk with Charles A. Roberts at least once in their lifetime. Don't feel obligated to stick around for a full lecture, just go in and tell him what you want.

From his website,
The right double-edge razor blade is another essential. Different blades are required for different shaving environments---sharp for wet shaving, all-purpose for drier shaving. We carry Derby, Feather, Merkur, Wilkinson and hard-to-find Personna Super + Platinum razor blades.
If you can make to Enchante, you should. Charles is a great guy and passionate about shaving.

I've not been in in a while, but I believe that the Shavemaster brushes that he has in the store are not for sale. There are a couple of gigantic Simpsons in the case, but I've not inquired about them.
My guess is that Charles will not have brushes for sale as he is recommending the Shave Cloth (which is a very good option).

Hi. New here and thought I should contribute. Glad to see this thread, since I've been searching Austin for supplies. My initiation into the world of wet shaving was with Charles at Enchante (quite an initiation, if you know the guy). Thank goodness for this forum to put some of the things he claims into perspective. Still, he's a great guy, and you'd be remiss not to see him when in Austin.
Central Market has a few things. You can find refills of the Provence Sante soap at both locations. I picked up the clay pot at the North Lamar store. Great soap.
The Market also stocks Pre de Provence soaps, including the shave soap. And they have the PdP cream. I sampled some of the cream and don't care for it. Speick is better and 1/3 the price.
Didn't see any razors, blades, or brushes there.

Glad to see this thread. My wife and I are planning to move to Austin in a week and a half.
Austin seems to have a much better selection than Santa Fe on shaving products:001_smile. Not surprising, though, Austin is a MUCH bigger city that Santa Fe (SF has a population of about 70K).

H-E-B grocery stores - common grocery store chain found all over Central Texas;.
I wish we had them in North Central Texas- every time I visit the Hill Country I end up in an HEB. Just got into wet shaving (so I can't speak to that), but their food variety is AWESOME. I live in a major metropolitan area (DFW), and our grocery stores don't have half the product a typical HEB does.

Just came back from Austin yesterday. I stumbled upon four ounce Thayer's witch hazel with aloe for seven dollars at Whole Foods Market. It was in the shopping center at 183 and Great Texas Highway (unsure if that is the exact name). The perfect size to try out the product. After using it once, I will go buy the super sized version online.

Gardens on 35 is officially closed awaiting re-opening with new owners. No idea what they might carry. Verbena also no longer stocks SMN products.
However, if you are interested in SMN, my wife just called me on her cell from the Domain. Atelier 1105 carries the full line of SMN frags and she just picked me up a tub of their shaving cream. :woot: So, at least there is one place to get their products now if you want to roll B&M style.

Nordstrom carries everything except for the scented soaps (sandalwood, lemon, lavender). They have all of the pre-shave oils, all of the creams, all of the aftershave balms, and the unscented soap (with and without the wooden bowl). This is as of about a week ago. I went in looking for the lavender soap and came out with the lavender cream :/ They do have 1-2 brushes, but of course they don't have the straights. AFAIK you can only get those online or at an AoS store.
Now awhile back, I bought the rose cream "for my wife", but I don't know if they have that anymore as it has been discontinued.

Stopped by Enchante today and found a few scents I liked. Charles was a nice enough fella, but to be honest was pretty offputing by kind of getting in your face. Needless to say we didn't buy anything as after about 10 minutes my whole family was ready to get the heck out of there.
Edit: Had an extra hour today (Sat.) and ran over to Finley's. What a great vibe that place had and very helpful as well. Picked up a jar of AoS lemon cream and a T&H lime bath soap. Tried out all the T&H stuff there and settled on a future purchase of the West Indies Limes and the 1805 colognes. I will definitely wait to get my hair cut if I head back this way.

Update on Atelier 1105 at the domain: It seems my wife had actually purchased the wrong item from them. They are new to carrying SMN and don't have much product knowledge. I had to go back in to return the AS balm (which they told my wife was the shaving cream). The only shave cream they had in stock was the stuff in the can. :scared:
I had a chat with one of the employees (not the owner) who seemed like a manager of some type about the shaving cream in the tub that is to be used with a brush, etc. They special ordered the correct cream for me. I told them that they might be better off stocking the shaving cream in a tub vs. the "pressurized can of goo". She mentioned she would talk to the owner about it.
As far as the frags go, they actually do not carry the full line as my wife had told me. They have about 6-7 of their frags and they do carry the Melegrano aftershave splash which is fantastic. The tester bottles are not marked as to which frag is which, and with the very limited knowledge that the staff seems to have, be careful if you go in. If you have done any research (which I strongly advise you do before going in), it's probable you'll know more than they do about their products.
Their service seems to be nice, but I do hope they invest a little bit of time into learning about the products they carry (especially the SMN line). I also noticed while in there that they carry the Omega shaving cream in a tub as well. Hope that helps you guys in Austin while looking for SMN products. Aside from Atelier, I don't think anyone else is currently carrying it at all as far as I know.

Charles was a nice enough fella, but to be honest was pretty offputing by kind of getting in your face.
+1. Guy would not shut up or listen to a word I had to say. Rather, he talked over me when I tried to say anything. I got out as quick as I could (still nearly 15 minutes later). I'm going to go ahead and hold off on going back in there.
Finley's, on the other hand, as you mentioned, is a top notch establishment. It's a bit dangerous only living 3 miles down the road from it! :w00t:

Finley's is the new place in the Village Shopping Center, right? Right by the Jos. Bank/Hangtown/Thai Spice?
I looked in the other day. Was put off by the fact that everyone working there appeared to be female and they charge $35 for a cut. Finley's Salon, maybe, but Barbershop?
And wow, tehtimmeh... you're pretty dang near where I live, it sounds like.

When I stopped on there wasn't a woman in sight, except at the register helping me.

Hm! Well, maybe I'll give it a try sometime. I'm still pretty happy with Good Life Barbershop downtown, but Finley's is wayyyy more convenient to where I live.

Does anyone know of some shaving brick and mortar locations in Austin other than Enchante? I'm here for a week so speedy replies would be appreciated.

Be aware that Hero's and Legacies isn't carrying AOS products any longer.

May need to keep in mind that many, if not all, stores at the Highland Mall have closed. I think the Dillards, the food court, and a few others may still operate, but that mall is pretty dead in general now.
