Don't take this wrong, but I won 2 of these on ebay each for less than 10 bucks shipped. I realize this is NOS, but price for this quality of razor is a bit high. Everything on it is plastic except the head which is metal.

NOS = New Old Stock

That razor is one of two things: Used, or cheaply made.

If it is to be considered NOS, the item must be in mint condition. Otherwise, the item is cannot be properly labeled as NOS.

WW-II Army razor made for soldiers. Time 1941-1945 they need cheap & many.

Agreed. The razor doesn't look NOS and in mint condition to me either. The head especially appears to have significant loss of plating or paint or whatever the black coating is. To the seller's credit, the pictures clearly show this. But I see no way to reconcile the description of the razor with the pictures, unless the pictures horribly misrepresent reality or something like that.

If this razor is 70 years old, I would think that signs of wear, just from sitting/being jostled around for that long, would not be unexpected. I doubt the paint on the top cap was intended to last for that long.

and two more

Info from another forum: TSD

" I have this same razor I picked up several years ago. Just wanted to say that mine is unused and it has the exact same loss of coating on the head as this razor. I think it is likely the combination of base metal and varnish/coating that interacts to cause this. It is not wear or damage on mine, but a natural aging process pretty much. I suspect this is the same here. Nice offer!!

I remember too when I picked this up it was the first case of this type I had seen. It is quite difficult to open until you get the trick!! I remember the sales person was ready to pry the lid off with a screwdriver because three of us had been unable to open it!! Fortunately, I changed her mind! Cool case."

I bought one of these here on the BST for around $5. Good luck with your sale.

They're overcharging as well.

As a WWII collector,,, I'd like to say that these are hard to find in this condition with all the original packaging..... If i had the extra cash,,, I'd buy it....

To those of you posting about buying them for $5-10,, did they have all of the original packaging and components...??? Or were they used and missing stuff...??? If any of you have them for sale in this shape for $5-10,,, please PM me...!!!!

Look at how a well-worn $15 Gillette Aristocrat becomes a $80 item when it's mint in the original packing with all the goodies....

If this seller is here just to profit from everybody,,, then that's not cool... But,,, he did post a link to one for sale for more than 2x his asking price.....

The "quality" of this item is not in question... This is how it was made... It is more of a collector's item than a practical shaving device.....

Still,, if I bought it,,, I'd use it once just to know how it shaves....

Actually, I found the thread that I bought them in right here (http://badgerandblade.com/vb/showthread.php?t=103157&highlight=star+tech).

As an aside, if any of you have a chance to deal with Michiganlover I'd suggest doing so. Great price, great packaging, no-hassle deal.

Sorry to hijack your thread.

Did you see difference between what I offer and what you bought. Sure if I sale just razor price was $5 or $7. Sorry but you are wrong.

I stated in an earlier post that I had picked up 2 of these on ebay for less than $10. Here are pics of the 1st one that arrived. This one cost total of $9.99. I am waiting for the other one to ship out, it is in better condition with the Star razor blades & cost total of $7.

This item may be a collectible due to it's age & history, but unfortunately I still don't see it being valuable to many since the quality of how this setup was made certainly lacks.

Folks, I think the comments of price and examples of this razor selling for less (and more) have all been respectfully offered. I thank everyone who takes the time to provide reference examples in these threads to help out potential buyers.

The thread has digressed a bit and that makes it distracting to potential buyers and the seller. I am going to do a bit of pruning of the posts in this thread to limit them to the price examples that have been posted and request that we then keep this thread focused on this specific sale. I think enough reference examples have been offered to give folks a feel for this listing.

The discussion about vendor status has been noted for followup as well.
