Hi guys,

I picked up a 1920 Canadian Gillette this week (see pics attached) for $16 CAD. It came in the original box, though the finish seems to be pretty worn. I was wondering if anyone can shed any light on this model (patent # 203578). I'm considering having it re-plated...is this a good idea?

It's a New type made from 1929. Most of the models are determined by which case they're in. Can you show us a photo of the top of the case? This model is frequently re-plated when worn examples are found.

The the New "Oxford" set. here is a photo from Mr. Razor's site.

I think I would try and polish up the razor as is and not replate. There are plenty single razors you should be able to find for that.

Thanks Len, I wish I had that blade case, that looks great. Can you recommend anything for polishing up the gold plate?

A quick soak in Scrubbing Bubbles and old soft tooth brush works great.

That's a good deal for $16 CDN.

I'll have to work out what the Australian equivalent of scrubbing bubbles is :) I assume it's some sort of soap-scum remover?

I thought $16 was reasonable too...any idea how much it's worth?

Shower cleaner would probably it...

I usually use dish soap with warm water and it does the trick. It's not good for everything, I know...
