Spent the last couple of days waiting for my Feather AC to show up practicing prepping and shaving with my excel. Feather showed up today so I gave it a whirl. I've never used a straight before, so I was a tad nervous. I stuck to the straight areas of the cheeks and neck for now. I started with a hot splash then proraso preshave followed by a micro'd hot towel for a couple of minutes. Lathered up some proraso and tried a shave (finished w/the excel). Experienced the following:

-Felt very strange shaving left handed - it was difficult to see/keep the blade angled correctly at certain points. I guess thats just inexperience.

-The shave was very close and smooth at the points of solid contact.

-The cutting edge felt really small, but that may just be the size of my grape.

A few nicks, but overall a lot better than I expected. I have nothing to compare it to though. I do know that the shave, where I had good contact, was much better than the usual cartridges I'm used to using.

The proraso pre-shave felt nice on the face. The shave cream lathered very well. I'm not so sure about the brush I'm using though, a Vulfix 406. It is very soft and spreads out very easy, even when I hold it by the base of the hair. I felt like I had no control over the brush. I think I'd like something a little stiffer, at least at the base.

Brave man. Congratulations.
Do keep us updated. I'd love to try the AC, but am afraid I'll accidently peform 'radical neck dissction' and need a 'free flap' to fix the damage.

Guess I'm just chicken, we were shaving like that for centuries before the safety razor came along.

Mighty brave of you, Morgan, to jump right in with a Feather. But then again, we should have expected this from the man who bends large bolts (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wwZe_pFm-nw)! Keep us up to speed as your technique improves.
