Well what can I say, I followed the advice I found here and had a good shave. I used a Merkur 34c with the merkur blade it came with, Col. Conk soap and a $3.99 drugstore brush. No nicks, no razor burn and no in-growns. I almost feel like I did something wrong for a first timer. I do feel the best advice I read was to let the weight of the razor do the cutting, there is definite potential for bloodshed there.

I love to hear success stories!
Congrats.
No matter how good the first one was, it gets better.
Now, let us talk about soaps, brushes, scuttles, aftershaves and blade packs.

Nice!

I also did well for my first shave ( today )

but I skipped the chin and the throat, still a bit hesitant to try it.

Congrats on the first shave. Take your time and work on technique. The switch to a DE takes some adjustment, but once you have it mastered, you will be amazed at the quality of your shaves.

Thats what I'm afraid of. Shave #2 coming this evening, we'll see if it was beginners luck.

Don't worry I'm already hooked, I've ordered a Rooney 3/1 brush, Haslinger aloe shave soap and I'm deciding on an aftershave, though I'll probably stick with the clubman. I dont even know what a skuttle is, if their expensive don't tell me. My wifes starting to get that "Sure have been alot of packages for you lately" look. If I'm not carefull there will be retribution!
