I have never heard of this product, but apparently it has been sold in the UK for over 100 years. One website says that it's a blend of coffee, chicory, sugar and water and is produced in Scotland.

Anyway, I just wondered if anyone had tried it.

I was looking for a completely different kind of post. My family used to camp a lot and dad made boiled coffee over a campfire, with spring water that I always thought was the best coffee I ever tasted.

I have never heard of the product you refer to.

its good stuff imo, smooth quite sweet and if you happen to like iced coffee then its great. cheap too. having said that i am by no means as into coffee as some others on here, so im speaking from a novice point of view.

Do you have a link to the website or pic? I think we have something similar here in Australia. My dad used to buy it often.

Here's a picture of the old label. The new label has them both sitting down, but I thought the graphic was too small to post it.

Here's a link as well: link (http://www.practicallyedible.com/edible.nsf/pages/campcoffee)

Yep we have the same stuff here but sold under a different name. I'm pretty sure McCormick is the maker as well. I haven't had that stuff since I was a kid.

The officer used to illustrate the label, along with his manservant, were real people. He was sadly driven to suicide because of his homosexuality. See here (http://www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/this-britain/a-colonial-legacy-an-officer-and-an-icon-415634.html) for further details.

This is what happens when they let men wear skirts in the military:biggrin: I remember when the label was changed although I never liked Camp coffee much - too sweet for my taste.

The only time I drank coffee made with Camp Coffee was when I was camping in August. Made with milk it was quite tasty, and the iced version sounds quite good.

There is a lovely wee traditional tune called 'Hector the Hero' inspired by the chap on the label, sounds great on a tin whistle, but they did it a while ago at the Edinburgh Tatoo with the massed bands, pipes and drums which was excellent. It must be on youtube somewhere.

Link added, hope it works!

Cafe Du Monde' coffee (http://shop.cafedumonde.com/coffee.html) (from New Orleans) has chicory in it. I sometimes enjoy it during the holidays (I drink it black though, not sweetened). I might pick some up in November for the holiday's.

I buy it at Cost Plus Worldmarket.
